Fatima's Daycare Center (her Mom's legacy)
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jeanne, and I am helping my good friend Fatima raise funds for a Daycare/Preschool Center she built in memory of her mom.
Fatima's Story:
My mother, Aminata Ouariké Diarra, passed away on November 29th, 2018 at the age of 72 years in Mali, West Africa.
She was an elementary teacher for 45 years. She believed kids are our future and encouraged everybody to invest in early childhood education, especially in girls’ education.
After she retired and with her health was failing, she continued to devote her time helping and mentoring kids to stay in school.
Because most parents were not educated, they relied on Aminata to help their kids with their education. She not only helped them with their homework, but she also fed poor neighborhood kids. She enjoyed sharing and caring for others.
My mom was a giving person. She touched and inspired so many families in the community!
My mother, Aminata Ouarike Diarra was:
Mother
Teacher
Community person
Mentor
Compassionate
Caring
To honor my mother’s legacy, I built a daycare center in her name: The Aminata Ouarike Diarra’s Daycare Center in Bamako, Mali- West Africa, in December 2019. There are currently 33 kids ages 3 to 6 years. There are 2 curriculum levels: First level is ages 3 to 5 years old, and level two is for 5 to 6 years.
Benefits of the Center:
• Kids learn the alphabet, numbers, building blocks, toys and other educational materials
• Kids learn social and teamwork skills to stimulate their cognitive development
• The program encourages parents to send their kids to primary school and increases kids’ interest in school
• Increasing opportunities for early learning increases school readiness, meaning children starting 1st grade excel and are more interested in education compared to the ones who didn’t have that opportunity
• The school encourages more girls’ enrollment
• Kids get free breakfast and lunch as some of the kids don’t have healthy nutrition at home
• There are two part-time daycare providers
• Trips to the zoo, library and other field trips
The center is also used for children’s vaccination events.
The funds will be used to cover expenses such as:
• classroom supplies
• two teachers’ salaries
• interactive and cognitive games
• art and craft supplies
• playground equipment maintenance and repairs
• kids’ daily breakfast and lunch
• utilities
• update furniture
• field trips
• kids’ uniforms
• laptop for the teachers
