Fattima the Endometriosis Warriors Surgery

Donation protected
This GOFUNDME account has been set up for our precious sister, Fattima!

Fattima has been suffering in silence as she deals with chronic pain from Endometriosis. She was diagnosed with stage 2 endometriosis in 2017. For those of you who don’t know what endometriosis is, let me explain. In short, it is evil and unforgiving to the body.  It’s where the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus, grows outside and spreads to other places. This can create organs to fuse, scar tissue to build, trigger chronic pain, and even threatens fertility. The cause is not fully clear but genetics is known to play a part. Fattima’s first surgery in California discovered that her endo mainly attacked her sigmoid colon, bladder, uterus, and cervix. After that we were told she’d need surgery every two years to manage the condition.

With a brave face, she has been on the hunt since the pain became unbearable. A hunt towards having a body that doesn’t make you grovel and fall to your knees in pain. My memories of Fattima being in pain are hard to put in words. Fattima has put on some fundraisers to self fund and we are grateful for anyone who has donated time or funds! We are trying to put the peddle to the medal by finally putting an end to her suffering. Please, $5, $20, $100 any donation helps. Reminder to those abroad, this is in US dollars. So please be aware of the conversation rates. The money goes towards her surgery which will be outside of Utah. That means on top of the hefty medical payments, her recovery will be extra difficult.

Fattima is required to pay 20% of her surgery costs - 10% of that is required before undergoing her operation. In addition, she and another person will need to fly to the location and are required to stay a few days after the procedure. Overall, we are seeking any additional assistance for surgery, travel, and lodging costs.

With her permission, I am sharing her story and in hopes that you can support in any way you’re able to. Thank you for taking the time to listen and learn about my baby sister! That is basically the short story ....read below if you are interested in her the specifics of her case!

A handful of physicians in the U.S. have the ability to perform the gold standard technique called “excision.” Utah just lost its only specialist, highly experienced in excision (of endo). Fattima’s current OB/GYN has informed us that he cannot perform the expert care that her medical state requires. Out of state specialists have reviewed Fattima’s case and found other areas potentially missed. This includes endo on her “uterosacral ligament, scarring of her hypogastric nerves, and adenomyosis.” Fattima currently endures severe lower back and pelvic pain, extreme fatigue, and a range of other symptoms. Mentally, this physical condition has taken an immense toll. Ultimately, this disease has been incredibly life-impacting.

Surgery in populations that do not use excision (the same technique as her last surgery), and have up to an 80% chance of endometriosis returning. These approaches leave the diseased cells behind. While rates of endo making a comeback with excision is less than 20%.

FYI - On average it takes 7 years for someone to become diagnosed with endometriosis. However, 1 in 10 people have this disease. A patient has to undergo laparoscopic surgery just receive an official diagnosis. At times endometriosis can be caught via ultrasound and other methods. To learn more visit, the CEC page.
