Faye Smith Interview

Faye Smith of Oxon Hill, Md. was among the federal workers who are at their wit’s end during this current Federal government shutdown.

You may have seen Faye on news shows or viral videos this past week. She's been an outspoken person in the effort to get the government working again.

Faye is a furloughed security guard at the Smithsonian. She is quickly running out of money, can’t pay her bills, and is growing more scared by the day.

“We’re going to food banks. I am going to McDonalds trying to apply for a job. I’m going everywhere, I don’t even have a watch because I went to the pawnshop giving my jewelry away just to make ends meet, and I have my rent coming up and I have no money to pay for it,” Smith said

Faye is one of the dozens of furloughed federal contract workers who descended on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday, and has since been an active member of the #OccupyHart movement to get Senators to act on the issue.

Please help us make sure that Faye isn't evicted on February 1st - she will be forced out of her home if we don't act today.

I want to raise enough support for Faye to be secure in her housing for at least 3 months, which is why I’ve raised the goal of this fund. Thank you all! -Josh
