Faye's Fighters

Let me introduce you to Faye Harrison. Daughter of Tracy and Nick Harrison, granddaughter of Walter and Lucille Church, Bill and Joy Glaser and Inez Harrison. She is the niece of Anita and Steve Gray, David Favro, Shana Glaser, Ned and Sara Glaser, and Alec and Adrianna Glaser and Jamie Harrison.

The Harrison family lives in Columbia, South Carolina. Faye is an inspiring young lady with an amazing sense of humor and a caring heart full of empathy and compassion.

Sadly, about the time she turned 10, her carefree life was turned upside down with a diagnosis of Crohn's disease. For the past 8 years she has been in near constant pain as her immune system has ravaged her digestive system. She has run the spectrum of Crohn's treatments, experiencing the full spectrum of side effects often with limited therapeutic benefits.

Now she finds herself having exhausted all conventional therapies with few providing any symptom relief and one bringing on side effects too severe to continue.

As a last resort, she and her parents have gone to Georgetown University Hospital to learn more about the possibilities and potential of a Bowel Transplant. This is a drastic step with life long implications, but through recent research and successes, may offer her the best chance at a life where she can once again be active without daily fears of pain or wondering what any given activity will cost her later.

During this evaluation, doctors have ran a gamut of tests to verify that such a transplant is possible. These tests have come back indicating that she would be an ideal candidate for a bowel transplant, all but one. A CT scan revealed a mass in her lower right lung about the size of a baseball. Of course, this needs to be taken care of before they can make progress on the bowel transplant.

They are currently in limbo not yet knowing what the mass is, let alone what the treatment plan will be. Given the various treatment regimens for Crohn's over the years, cancer is sadly the most likely cause of the mass. Depending on the treatment plan developed, they may need to stay in DC for the long term. this quickly adds expenses beyond the normal medical that insurance helps with. Travel and living in DC are unexpected expenses that insurance offers no assistance with.

We appreciate prayers and any contributions you can make. We look forward to brighter days with these uncertainties and medical drama behind us when we can celebrate her miraculous recovery and new lease on life.
