Help Fruit Belt #TakeBackTheLand

Donation protected
Help the Fruit Belt community #TakeBackTheLand to ensure residents will have a say in the building and revitalization of their community.

Your donations will be used to purchase city-owned vacant lots within the Fruit Belt to create a communtiy land trust.

Creating a community land trust in the Fruit Belt is a mechanism to promote strategic community controlled development and permanently affordable housing. Given the Fruit Belts proximity to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, the neighborhood is highly susceptible to being gentrified. The effects of which are already seen and felt today. A community land trust would permanently ensure beneficial use of city-owned vacant lots. The Fruit Belt has a compelling argument that the City’s land use and policy decisions over the years have done harm to the Fruit Belt and that, to repair those harms as well as to protect a historic neighborhood and its vulnerable residents from demolition and displacement, the City owes it to the neighborhood to use the vacant lots for community benefit.

The residents of the Fruit Belt  are working hard to ensure  they will have a part in their community's development.  The creation of a Community Land Trust  will give the residents of  Fruit Belt  the ability to keep rents affordable,  develop affordable housing, and have a say in the type of buildings that can and should be created in thier community. In order to have a voice funding is needed, in order to ensure that existing needs are meet without compromising future generations, funds are needed. In order to invest in the infrastructure of the community and to help insure that residents who currenty live in the Fruit Belt will be able to remain in their homes,  funds are needed.

Why is  funding for the Land Trust so important?
Currently, there are over 200 city-owned lots in the Fruit Belt community.   Through a mechanism such as a land trust the  purchase of  these properties would enable the residents to have a say in what type of housing or other types of structures could be developed on these sites.  This is why structuring and funding  the land trust is extremely important and beneficial to the residents of the  Fruit Belt .

Donations  from neighbors, friends, former residents, those with a vested interest, the help of everyone  is  sorely needed as time is swiftly running out.   As the window of opportunity for the purchase of those vacant lots is closing, the residents of the Fruit Belt community need your help.

Your donation will help preserve the integrity of one of the oldest and most historic neighborhoods in the city of Buffalo.   Your donation to this worthy cause whether large or small will help the residents of the Fruit Belt ensure that all resources and opportunities are fairly distributed and that every person has the capacity and a fair say in their community's progress.

All contributions are welcome, and greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your support.
