Help Zavier get top surgery

Hi everyone, my name is Zav. I am a transmasculine person raising funds for top surgery. Any donation or sharing this gofundme would mean the world to me.

As I’m sure many of you know, wait times for trans-affirming care through the GIC system are unsustainably long (I have included some links below if you would like more information). I’ve been on the waitlist for two years and I could be waiting 3-4 more years before I get an initial appointment - let alone a referral for this surgery. I cannot wait that long.

I’m therefore opting to go private for this procedure - a route many trans folks in the UK are forced to take. I’m 27 years old but have no life savings due to having been financially independent since I was 14 – and while I have worked consistently since that age (often juggling multiple jobs), I’ve had to put all my income into living expenses and putting myself through university. I’m currently completing a PhD in trans history, which means I live off £15K a year and face financial precarity with the current state of the academic job market.

I will be putting aside as much money as possible, but I am also self-funding HRT and other medical costs and will need financial support for surgery. The money raised will go directly towards the costs of the assessment, referral, surgical consultation, and the surgery itself.

For much of my life, I've been invested in LGBTQ+ activism. At present, my energy is spent fighting for trans inclusion in university spaces and in the curricula. Naturally, this is entangled with my scholarship, and so, as a specialist in trans history, I am very happy to share any resources, future publications, and readings lists, as well as speak with anyone wishing to learn more or include trans (and queer) history in their teaching.

Making this public appeal feels somewhat terrifying, but I currently have no other choice. While I am grateful for any and all donations, please only donate if you have the financial stability to do so, especially if you are trans yourself/are self-funding trans healthcare.
