Franklin County People's Fund ~ Fondo del Pueblo

Donation protected
Donate to the Franklin County People’s Fund to provide real and immediate support to the most vulnerable members of our community as they navigate unjust systems and fight to keep their families together.

Families in Franklin County are too often torn apart through deportation, incarceration, and housing instability. On top of these systemic threats, individuals who are already marginalized by racism, xenophobia, and poverty often face sudden job loss, medical issues, domestic violence, and other personal emergencies.

The People’s Fund is a tool to help our community push back against family separation and support those who are experiencing overlapping crises. We offer short-term financial support and other vital resources to those who need them most, without requiring recipients to go through tiresome and alienating bureaucratic processes.

With even a small donation, you can show up for your neighbors as they fight for justice and stability.

How we work:

We are an all-volunteer mutual aid collective, redistributing community-generated resources to where they’re most needed. All donated money goes directly to those facing the threat or reality of family separation in Franklin County.

We fund families on a case-by-case basis. We know ‘family’ can mean different things for different people, and we consider each person's situation  as a whole to maintain a relationship-based, human spirit in the project. We work with folks who receive funds  to shape our mission and determine our priorities for future redistribution. People know their own needs better than anyone else, and we believe that a spirit of trust and solidarity is the best way to ground our work. Our goal is a resilient network, united in a common fight against inequality and isolation in our community.

Your role:

The People’s Fund receives no grants or outside funding. It is completely supported by individual donors—working people, students, retirees, and so many others who want to support their neighbors who are experiencing hardship and oppression. In the past 5 years, the Fund has given vital assistance to hundreds of people in moments of crisis, allowing them to stay in their homes, fight deportations, pay for urgent medical care, and so much more. By giving to the People’s Fund, you can give real, tangible support to those who need it most.

Because the entire fund goes directly to impacted residents, even a small donation can go a long way. To make this work more sustainable for the long-haul, please consider giving a recurring donation.

Our Background:

The People’s Fund began in 2017 as a community response to an uptick in the racist targeting of marginalized groups and the increased threat of forced family separation. The economic upheaval and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic intensified the already challenging situations many families in our community face, and we responded by increasing our fundraising efforts. We are currently engaged in a Listening Project, interviewing past and current People’s Fund members and recipients to help shape our future goals and projects.
