Help us place a front-page ad in Apple Daily
Since the anti-ELAB movement started in June last year, the freedoms of Hongkongers have been drastically restricted. The arrests of media tycoon Jimmy Lai and pro-democracy activist Agnes Chow marked the most aggressive action yet since the National Security Law in Hong Kong is in place.
We, Hongkongers in ANZ, are obliged to show support, and we know many of our friends in ANZ feel the same way.
As such, we are asking you to help us crowdfund the cost for placing a front-page advertisement in Apple Daily to show our solidarity, and our support to freedoms of press and expression in this time of great need. This initiative is started by passionate Hongkonger Buzz and supported by NSW Hongkongers.
Below is the mock-up of the ad design. To show our support, we are going to do a virtual human chain in the ad. Simply take a photo of yourself holding hands with your loved ones, pets or even your favourite stuffed toy (in a COVID-safe manner) and send it to NSW Hongkongers via DM on Facebook , Instagram , Twitter or Telegram or email . Your photo will be showcased alongside the message “一群澳紐香港人同你地一齊撐落去 You’ve got friends Down Under!” in the ad.
We have a 3-tiered fundraising goal for this project, and crowdfund from 16 Aug 2020 - 26 Aug 2020 23:59 AEST. Each tier will give us a better positioned ad in Apple Daily:
Bronze: Half Page Ad – HKD $30,000 (~AUD $6,000 including transaction fees)
Silver: Full Page Ad – HKD $60,000 (~AUD $12,000 including transaction fees)
Gold: Front Page Full Page Ad – HKD $180,000 (~AUD $36,000 including transaction fees)
Situation 1 - Fail to reach Bronze Level
Should we fail to achieve our Bronze level goal, we will use the funds we raise to place classified and/or “Lennon Wall” style ads in Apple Daily.
Situation 2 - Reaching Bronze Level but fail to reach Silver Level
Should we succeed in achieving our Bronze level goal but fail to reach Silver level, we will use the funds we raise to place one half page ad in Apple Daily and allocate all the remaining funds as follows:
- Below AUD $500 – further placement of classified and/or “Lennon Wall” style ads in Apple Daily
- Over AUD $500 – make an one-off donation to 10 pro-democracy independent media in Hong Kong:

We are very lucky that a professional accountant, Hin Hang Cheng, has volunteered to help us handle the funds. Cheng will be withdrawing the funds on behalf of the NSW Hongkongers team from this campaign to place the ad in Apple Daily. A spreadsheet detailing the expenses will be made public on NSW Hongkongers’ Facebook page afterwards.

自從去年6月反送中運動開始之後,香港人的自由便被大幅收窄。「壹傳媒」創辦人黎智英及前「香港眾志」成員周庭被捕,更是目前為止港區國安法實施後最嚴峻的一役。
我們作為身在澳紐的香港人,有責任向身在香港的手足們展示我們的支持。我們亦知道很多澳紐的朋友都有同感。
因此,我們希望大家和我們一起眾籌在《蘋果日報》下全版頭版廣告的費用,在這艱難的時刻以示我們與香港人同行的心,以及對新聞和言論自由的支持。這次活動沿於一位非常熱心的香港人巴斯,並由NSW Hongkongers協助籌辦。
以下為廣告設計的模擬圖。為了表示我們對香港人的支持,我們會把一條虛擬人鏈搬到紙上。只要把你和親友、寵物或毛公仔的拖手照(請自行斟酌武漢肺炎風險),私訊到NSW Hongkongers的Facebook 、Instagram 、Twitter 或Telegram 或電郵 給我們;你的照片便會和我們這次活動的訊息——「一群澳紐香港人同你地一齊撐落去 You’ve got friends Down Under!」一同出現在廣告上。
我們會有三個級別的籌款目標,籌款期為2020年8月16日至8月26日晚上11時59分(悉尼時間)。每達到越高級的目標,廣告便能出現在《蘋果日報》的更佳位置:
銅:半版內頁廣告 – 港幣$30,000 (~澳幣$6,000連手續費)
銀:全版內頁廣告 – 港幣$60,000 (~澳幣$12,000連手續費)
金:全版頭版廣告 – 港幣$180,000 (~澳幣$36,000連手續費)
狀況1:無法達到銅級目標
如果我們無法達到銅級的目標,我們會用已籌得的款項在《蘋果日報》下分類或「連儂牆」廣告。
