Introduction
When Feeding A UniKorn, you are supporting survivors of sexual assault & domestic violence by fueling conscious, creativity-centered community forums, research, resources, prevention programs and initiatives with a universal orientation.
Our focus is on developing creative solutions to a pervasive problem and empowering survivors. We work with non-profits and other groups to cultivate consciousness by educating people about the individual and social impacts of sexual violence. By innovating recovery with Creativity Survival Kits, we inspire survivors to transform their lives through self-healing.
What is a uniKorn?
In 2014, artist K.Sweet received a proclamation for her performance art piece, "Open JAR: A Potential Romance, Almost," which starred an alicorn functioning as a vehicle between the lifetimes of a sexual assault survivor. This was the capstone project for her Masters in Transformative Leadership from the California Insitute of Integral Studies.
The alicorn (K.Sweet's uniKorn) lives on as an iconic feature in K.Sweet as Human Statue, making rare appearances downtown Reno, NV for events and random lightheartedness.
In honor of the 10-year anniversary of Washoe County, NV recognizing April as #sexualassaultawarenessmonth, K.Sweet decided to raise $10K toward another 10 years of advocacy. Her goal is to bring the power of healing arts to survivors of abuse through art workshops, forums and public speaking engagements.
Money = "Feed"
Caring for a uniKorn is high maintenance and requires a lot of upkeep. For example, a "barn" and other safety measures, special transportation, lots of fresh "skin" care, a consistent flow of art supplies, "trainer" expenses and the fuel to make it all happen.
Since unicorns aren't "real" and this uniKorn "is," you can fulfill your fantasies of feeding a unicorn by feeding this proverbial one instead. Your contributions help us to keep believing in ourselves and spreading that magic to others who need it most. Who knows, you may even land a uniKorn ride opportunity...
Art helped us to recover ourselves from the horrors of the individual and social impacts of sexual violence. Help us share the tools that led to a transformative, creative life.
Conclusion
Together, we can make a difference. Stand with us this Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Donate, share, educate, and let’s #FeedAuniKorn to fight against sexual violence.
