We started the campaign wanting to send meals to our frontline workers, which we are continuing to do. And now the focus is clear to continue to help our local food pantries as well.
Our fund is now accepting donations for our local food pantries for the many families in our own neighborhood who are in dire need . The Wisdom Lane Food Pantry, organized by the Wisdom Lane Middle School PTA has been handing out food each week to anyone who needs it. We are also assisting with the Mighty Mind Food Pantry through the East Meadow School district. The more we work together, the stronger our bonds become. Neighbor to Neighbor!!!
#FeedNewYork Strong! our local Food Pantries Need your Help NOW.
The Coronavirus Pandemic has changed our lives forever - sadness, pain, suffering, isolation, death. But let's not forget that our human nature kicked into high gear and we rallied together. We have seen pure goodness come out of this tragedy. Neighbors helping neighbors. Strangers helping strangers. Family members being isolated from their loved ones during the hardest of times and being cared for by silent angels. But never forget we are #NEW YORK STRONG.
Our frontline workers came to our rescue and are continuing to save lives, lift spirits, risk their own lives, miss their own families, work tirelessly and selflessly, cry together, mourn alone for those they could not help. Now it's our turn.
As we sat hunkered down in our home, we felt, like so many of you, "what can I do?" Well that thought was prompted by posts that were appearing on Facebook groups thanking a particular local deli for their generous donation to some frontline workers. Next thing you know, more and more people were asking Ninas Deli , a family owned and run small business in East Meadow, NY if they could deliver some food to a particular hospital.
The answer became clear. That's something we can certainly do. We decided to place an order for a delivery to Plainview Hospital because we have a special friend, also a fellow musician, who works there as a Nurse.
The recipients were delighted with the delicious food. That's when the idea surfaced. I called the owner of Ninas Deli , Benny Diasparra, and asked if he would be interested in taking on this challenge. He jumped at the opportunity because he saw the need to help as well as the opportunity to keep his own employees working.
New Yorkers do not give up. Food Feeds the Soul. Food provides the needed energy to do our jobs. Food brings us pleasure. We have heard story after story how the simple gesture of a hot meal, a fresh salad, or sandwich, even a yummy brownie brought such joy to these overworked heroes.
We need to feed our frontline workers NOW right here on Long Island. Some hospital cafeterias have been closed. Staff have been forced to bring a bag lunch, eat on the run, and many times, not eat at all.
We are a community. We help each other. We do what we can to pick each other up. We are all hurting. We can all do our part. Please Donate whatever you can. Share the link with your family, your friends, your co-workers, on your Facebook Timeline, LinkedIn, Instagram, Email. We are so grateful for any support you can give.
Our Goal is to feed as many frontline workers as possible at local Long Island hospitals, beginning with LIJ Hospital New Hyde Park and Plainview Hospital and the Wisdom Lane Food Pantry in Levittown . 100% of all donations raised will be used to send food directly to these workers and our food pantries for distribution to families in need from Nina's Deli. If we surpass our initial goal, we can add more hospitals, food pantries, and more food retailers and restaurants to the list. The more small businesses we can include, the better for our entire community.
