Feed Those Who Are Fighting
Donation protected
Help us raise funds to feed medical workers and first responders while also supporting independent restaurants!
New York is still the epicenter of this crisis in America - there is more need than ever for all of us to come together and do what we can to help. Our health care system is overwhelmed and the people fighting on the front lines need our support. They are risking their lives and working countless hours, so let's keep them fueled with good food. The fight is far from over and we need your help.
My name is Derek Orrell and I'm the executive chef and co-owner of the Brooklyn based catering company Beck & Call. My business partner Brendon Beck and I are calling on you to help us feed the heroes at our local hospitals. As an independent business we were struggling to keep our staff employed - by donating you are not only helping a great cause, but also helping small businesses stay afloat.
Donate now: Every dollar counts and even small donations are greatly appreciated. Donations will be used only for food supplies, to pay employees, and to keep the lights on. Excess resources will all be shared with other independent restaurants that are ready to help us in this fight. Thank you for your generous support!
Spread the word:
1. Tell everyone about this fund – text, email, call, zoom, Facebook, AOL instant messenger – it all works.
2. Use the hashtag #feedthosewhoarefighting
3. Do the #feedthosewhoarefighting challenge: We are all at home getting our chef on (or doing our best). Post a picture of your next quarantine meal with the hashtag #feedthosewhoarefighting and tag five of your friends to see if they can make something that looks better!
The goal: Our original goal was $15k, so why did we move the goal post? Each meal has cost ~$10 to deliver, including everything from ingredients to staff payments and overhead normalized across our production output. Now that we have more funding we can ramp up output and reduce cost to ~$6-7 per meal. That means even more heroes fed.
Once we maximize output at our restaurant, we have other independent restaurants that are struggling to stay busy but that are ready to help. We are making multiple deliveries to the same hospitals (thankfully we make really good food) and we are constantly adding new hospitals. We have also served the NYFD and we will soon be serving the NYPD. All of our first responders are heroes in this time and resources are being stretched to a breaking point. There is no limit to the good we can do!
The following upcoming deliveries are already scheduled with many more to come:
Tuesday 4/7: NYU Langone - Tisch Hospital
Wednesday 4/8: NY Presbyterian
Thursday 4/9: Columbia University Irving Medical Center
Sunday 4/12: Woodhull Medical Center
Monday 4/13: New York Presbyterian - Queens
Thank you for your generous support!
