Supporting Augusta Healthcare

Donation protected
4/29/20  UPDATE: Incredible things have been happening! We delivered 312 face shields and three boxes of hand sanitizer to AUMC today, and we have since expanded from just AUMC to other facilities that have worked with MCG students and reached out for help. We just sent 90 N95s + 50 cloth masks + 300 gloves to Affinis Hospice, and 90 N95s + 700 gloves to Valdosta family medicine. We also have 300 more N95s set to arrive this Friday!

We have now put over $2,000 into local Augusta businesses and made multiple deliveries of local goods to 13 units + 8 night teams and ICUs at Augusta Health. Over $500 has been raised in our two proceeds nights at Namaste Indian Street Food and Southbound Smokehouse with more on the schedule!

We are absolutely blown away by the success of this endeavor, and a HUGE thank you to everyone who has helped and supported us. We are going to continue pouring money into local Augusta businesses and making deliveries of local goods to our frontline workers, and as we are able to find more suppliers of PPE, we will be able to increase how much we are able to purchase. PLEASE continue supporting us however you can! Thank you!!

4/7/20 UPDATE: With what we have raised from this fundraise so far, we have been able to purchase and collected over 500 N95 masks and 250 face shields. Last week, we delivered over 1,000 care packages of snacks and candy to 15 departments at Augusta University Medical Center, each containing individual thank you notes from members of the community.

With the remaining budget, we are going to pour whatever money we can into local Augusta businesses, especially those who have already been extremely generous donating to these care packages so far. We will focus on 10 hard hit departments at AUMC and the VA with the initial focus of 1-2 deliveries to each per week. PLEASE help us support both our local small businesses as well as deliver some much-needed to our exhausted medical providers!

We also will continue including thank you notes in these deliveries as we had an outpouring of appreciation for the kind words of community members, so please continue completing this form! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeS3pkAlOTymsyOEB3RdXyyBJ_-yvZtctXtz4WRVfF6hQJeOg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Previous Post:

Morale is incredibly low in our local hospitals. When speaking to a physician last week, she told me a story about how she had lunch with a pregnant nurse who was feeling extremely anxious about her health and the health of her unborn child. The physician offered her the cookie that was in her lunch, and the nurse burst into tears purely from this offer of kindness.

In the emergency department, an employee walked around offering everyone a piece of candy. The ED physician I spoke to said this is still the highlight of her week.

Physicians, nurses, techs, specialists, and staff of all kind are working overtime in dangerous conditions with limited supplies while also attempting to control their own fears of bringing this home to their spouses, parents, and children.

A group of medical students from MCG has come together to organize a morale-boosting drive. Our goal is to work with each department in the hospital, from the ED to ICUs to the general medicine floor, and provide them with "care packages." We will be creating individual bags full of candy, granola bars, mints, energy drinks, etc., and providing hand-written cards with messages thanking these healthcare providers for all they are doing. We will be delivering these bags to each department with the goal of keeping them restocked as monetary donations are able to provide.

This money will also go towards funding supplies for a group that has begun making homemade masks to address the acute shortage of personal protective equipment for our frontline workers, especially at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. If you have any fabric you are willing to donate, please send an email to [email redacted]

With any extra money received, we will be purchasing personal protective equipment (face shields, N95, etc.) from vendors we have been able to find across the state. If you have any PPE you are willing to donate, please contact the above Gmail to set up the donation.

This project is entirely donation based. Therefore, we are relying on the generosity of our community to keep this project going. We know, however, that this is not an ideal time to be asking the community for monetary donation as so many are out of work and struggling with their own families during this difficult time. We ask for even just five dollars from everyone who reads this.

Please, help us with our goal of offering a small bit of hope in the lives of these healthcare workers who are giving up so much for all of us.

If you would like to leave a message that will be included in these packages, please fill out the following form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeS3pkAlOTymsyOEB3RdXyyBJ_-yvZtctXtz4WRVfF6hQJeOg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please consider donating however much your family is able to give. Thank you.
