Educate Homeless Children in Uganda

Donation protected
Homeless children in Uganda are at greater risk of starvation and abuse than ever before–especially those in post-conflict Gulu. They need our help. The scant food sources available before the pandemic no longer exist and many children are being viciously beaten, raped, or otherwise abused as they scavenge for food.

This fundraiser is on behalf of MPower Gulu, (aka Edu-Power Uganda) a registered Community Based Organization (CBO) headed by a former street-kid named Peter, a young man I met when  I was in the Peace Corps there from 2011-2013. Serving about 70 of Gulu’s approximately 800 street-children, M-Power Gulu works to get kids back to school, train them in vocations, and when possible, reconnect them with their villages. That said, lack of food is now a crisis, since they have zero funding outside this campaign and the random small donations.

Most children living on the street are the victims of ongoing consequences of the twenty-year war led by Joseph Kony and the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army). Gulu, the epicenter of that conflict, was and is ground zero for displaced children escaping hunger, abandonment, or abuse. Many were orphaned as the result of the AIDS epidemic, itself a consequence of Kony’s weaponization of the disease.

The goal is at least one month of meals for the children: two meals per day at about $1.60 per child, per day. Any contribution will help and all funds will go directly to M-Power Gulu to be used solely for the feeding and re-homing of these children, with no administrative costs.

I am aware of the difficulty you all are facing now, and deeply appreciate your consideration of even the smallest donation.
