Feed The Hungry Nepal
Namaste!
On March 24th 2020, Nepal underwent an official lockdown after seeing the first positive COVID case in Kathmandu. During the months that followed, 90% of all economic activities came to a grinding halt causing disastrous impact on the wellbeing of the already marginalised working class population of Nepal. As a result, more than half of Nepal’s population faced hunger related issues.
The second wave evidently struck Nepal as daily reported infections rose exponentially. The new strain, proven to be more infectious and dangerous, has left patients dying outside the hospital, awaiting their turn for treatment. Desperate families are pleading for oxygen cylinders and ICU beds. As a result, Nepal underwent another prohibition period on 29th April, 2021 further worsening living conditions of those affected by the first lockdown, forcing them to struggle just to survive.
Brief Overview
Feed The Hungry Nepal (FTHN) is a Youth-Led, Social Business Organization with a vision of ending hunger in Nepal. We began our journey as a collective effort of five energetic teenagers on June 5th 2020 and expanded exponentially into a formal organization. Till now, we’ve mobilized 400+ volunteers to support 42,000+ individuals through 6,200 HNL (Hunger No Longer) kits and 12,000 Thaali (cooked meal sets) in 12 districts of Nepal.
After the first lockdown, we focused more towards sustainable development to strengthen food security and reduce overall poverty in Nepal. We also started FTHN Khadya Bhandar, our major social business to intervene in the Food Supply Chain of Nepal while providing food at minimal rate to slum dwellers, generating revenue of more than 1 million rupees in just around 4 months.
After the second wave hit, we took it upon ourselves to become one of the early responders to supply food and oxygen cylinders due to its critical shortage. We feel it is our responsibility to help each other under any dire circumstance, not just this pandemic! We are an organization born amidst the pandemic and will not rest until we fulfill our duties.
We need your support!
Everything that we have accomplished till this date was possible due to the generosity and kindness of the people, who poured their trust in us to support those in need. We have not failed them and we never will! Transparency is one of our core values. We maintain 100% transparency through an online spreadsheet including all our financial information and relief aid data. During these desperate circumstances, we implore you to support us on our journey to fight this pandemic and achieve our goal of #HungerNoLonger.
