As you can imagine, the surgeries, hospital stays, medications and tests are very expensive! Cashew is very young little boy; his whole life is waiting for him! We need your help with his medical costs. His liver may be small and needs support, but there’s his heart, and Cashew’s heart has joy, his heart is loving, and his heart is happy, endlessly happy… Please Read His Story...

We’d like for you to meet Cashew! He is a one-year-old Yorkie weighing 8 pounds and is all puppy! He came into rescue with lab work indicating a liver shunt, very common in Yorkshire Terriers. We did months of extensive testing, including CBC’s, Ammonia and a Bile Acid test. These tests revealed high liver enzymes confirming a shunt. He had an ultrasound, surgery to remove bladder stones and a CT scan to locate the shunting vessel. He recently had surgery just two months after the first one to repair the shunt. The CT scan revealed that the inside of his liver is clear as well as his bladder and kidneys, so some good news! He has small micro shunts that are not repairable. His liver is small, and he will most likely need regenerative medication lifelong. In addition to the hospital costs, he also needed to be brought up to date with all vaccines and regular vet care.

This little ‘peanut’ is super sweet, He is a happy little boy greeting each day like it’s going to be the best day EVER! There is a joy in him, a bouncy delight in everything he does. So much going on inside of him, but he is happy and playful, loves long walks, rides in the car and playing with his favorite ball. He is a whirlwind of fun and energy; then he sleeps quietly through the night enjoying his little doggie dreams.
