Feline Evans Syndrome

Donation protected

Hey, this is my first time doing anything like this. The cover photo is of my first pet ever, his name is Milo. Milo has always been a very sweet, (kind of) friendly, loving, energetic cat. I adopted him when he was 10 weeks old in February of 2022, and I firmly believe we have some sort of soul tie.

It is currently mid may of 2023, meaning he is only a year and 5 months old, and two days ago he started showing signs and symptoms of being really sick. I woke up and I attempted our normal morning routine, but he wouldn’t move. His eyes had dilated to two different sizes and he lost almost all motor functions. Milo kept falling over and yelling for help, and i immediately started crying and called every vet in Lexington. For a cat as young as he is, it was very difficult, concerning, and confusing to deal with.

After a few vet visits, a lot of bloodwork, tests, injections, and medication, we believe Milo has Evans Syndrome. Evans Syndrome is when the immune system attacks itself, causing the red blood cells and platelet count to drop to dangerously low levels. Evans Syndrome is extremely rare in felines, but it’s not completely unheard of. Since it is so rare, treatment options are limited and extremely expensive. On top of this, we believe he might have hip dysplasia, causing chronic pain. He was also diagnosed with non regenerative anemia, which he will need treatment for throughout the course of his life.

I am 21 years old just finally trying to gain my footing in life, but I can’t stress enough how much Milo means to me… I love this cat more than anything in the world, and I'm terrified of losing him. He has been in treatment for two days now, and still has an outstanding bill of $670, and best case scenario he has 6 months of treatment left to go. Milo is currently on antibiotics and steroids, but struggles to be self sufficient. My Mom, sister and I have to help him eat, drink water, and use the litter box. He must be under constant supervision so he doesn’t hurt himself. All I want is to ensure he is properly taken care of.

Milo is my baby. I have cared for him for over a year now, and he is way too young to be dealing with these issues. Compared to last month, he is almost lifeless. The vets might suggest a blood transfusion and more check ups, but I have run my money dry in the past couple of days. I’m asking for help for his sake, to help cover his medical bills.

Milo is the sweetest baby, and its breaking my heart to see him in this condition. And I can only seek him more help with the proper funding and treatment. Even if you are unable to donate, all I ask is for everyone to share this post to spread awareness of his condition.
