Felipe and Family Journey to Beat Leukemia

At the beginning of this year, Felipe, (15yrs old) began experiencing some very intense muscle and joint pains. The pain grew and ultimately on February 1st, 2023, his parents brought him to the emergency room. After hours of waiting, the 2 tests confirmed Felipe’s diagnosis of Leukemia. He was taken by ambulance to Oakland Children’s Hospital where they confirmed the diagnosis. The family was told they would be on a 3 yr treatment plan of testing, hospitalization, chemotherapy, quarantining, pain, traveling, etc.

The treatment is showing positive results. But it also has depleted Felipe's immune system. Without a health immune system his body is not able to fight against any illness leaving him defenseless. This means that the family has to be ultra-careful and well-equipped to not potentially bring anything harmful to Felipe.

This fundraising has been established to assist the family during this unprecedented situation. With medical expenses, daily travel costs to Oakland, and to help the family with finances because they are unable to return to work. The medical team has instructed them to stay away from large groups and close contact with others for possible risk of outside infection to Felipe’s immune system.

The family is self employed. Just a month ago they opened a brand new martial arts gym and went into it 100%. Martial arts is a close-contact sport. Because of the orders of the medical team, Fabricio and Viviane are unable to return to work right now. They have support from their gym members and coaches to keep the gym going but it also means that their personal finances have become limited. This family has an amazing heart, one that gives and cares for others. They are respected and loved by many. Their friends have created this fundraiser for them to provide help to a family who otherwise wouldn’t ask for it themselves.
