We captured some stunning footage of ceremonies on our first trip to the Peruvian Andes last July. Now our film crew is returning in late March to finish shooting. We’ll be spending several weeks in the communities of Q’ero and around Ausangate, documenting more songs and ceremonies, and the rhythms of daily life in the Andes among the Apus.

All our major equipment purchases were completed for the last round of filming, so the money we’re raising now is for direct travel/food expenses, offerings to the teachers we’re working with and supplies to support the communities during our visit. Our Story: 

High in the Peruvian Andes, there is a living shamanic and mystical tradition that stretches back to time immemorial. In the villages of Q’ero and around the sacred mountain Apu Ausangate, the sacred knowledge of the Inca and pre-Inca people survives to this day, reflecting a way of living in balance with all of creation—the stars, the mountains, the rivers, the animals, the spirits and our whole human family—through the practice of ayni, sacred reciprocity.

This July, 2022, we have been invited to travel to these remote locations, at heights of 15,000 (4500 m) and more, to film and document the living traditions of the female shamans of the Andes with an emphasis on presenting these teachings and practices in an immersive, living, heart-centered way that honors the message these female shamans want to offer to the world at this critical moment in our shared human history.

Our goal is to raise $9,000 by June 15 to support the communities we visit and offer these funds as ayni to the people who will feed us, house us, share their stories and welcome us into their communities. Without community participation, this documentary won’t be possible. We want not just to document these traditions, but to enliven and protect them so this ancient wisdom—so desperately needed by the world right now—will not disappear. If your heart is called to support this venture, please know that any offering you can make will be deeply appreciated and will have a real impact in reaching our goals.

About the Film Makers:

 

Mitchell Clute is a writer, teacher and long-time student of the mystical traditions of the Andes. For the past 20 years he has worked for the spiritual media company Sounds True, where he has worked with many of the world’s leading spiritual teachers and shamanic practitioners. He hosted the program A Year of Ceremony, the first online offering bringing shamans from many of the world’s tradition to a western audience through live full moon broadcasts. He holds an MFA in poetry from the Iowa Writers workshop.

Belami Cárdenas is a Peruvian documentary photographer and videographer, originally from Ayacucho but based in Cusco for the past ten years. His photographic work is rooted in documenting the personal day to day experience within Andean society and the interaction with the natural and the mystical of these lands.
