Hello!
We are FemFest, we're an arts community interest company based in Brighton (UK). FemFest is Brighton's only arts festival which exclusively programmes and carves out safe spaces for the work of women, non-binary, queer and trans people.
2024 was our biggest year yet with us mounting 27 events over four days. The festival saw us support three early career artists to help them mount their productions and ready themselves for the industry. We had over five hundred audience members over the five days.
Up until now we have been entirely self-funded. Putting on a festival is not cheap, and doing this safely and with audience/artists welfare at the forefront is even more expensive. The future of FemFest is always up in the air with arts sector funding being reduced across the UK and important arts institutions closing their doors.
We want to continue creating a safe and nurtured space for artists to experiment and try out their work. We also want to keep pushing for economic accessibility at our festival with free tickets and concession price tickets. The current economic model does not work and is pricing audiences and artists out of attending performance events. Now more than ever artists need safe spaces to try out their work without risking their savings to do so, FemFest fills this gap.
By supporting FemFest you will be backing early career and established artists from marginalised genders, contributing to the diversification of fringe level theatre in Brighton, improve our capabilities as a festival to support artists and audiences.
Your donation will go on a myriad of things, chiefly you will be supporting:
- Our Free Ticket Fund - giving audiences the chance to attend FemFest events for free whilst ensuring artists are still paid fairly for this subsidised attendance. £200
- Community craft events for service users of our partner charities and economically disadvantaged members of the public. £200
- Financial guarantees for artists. Giving artists a fee for taking part in the festival, allowing them to come to the festival without risking their personal finances. This is particularly important for early career artists and performers without production teams who may not be able to build ticket sales in the same way as established artists. This financial guarantee will cover basic costs like travel to the festival, poster printing for their event and technician hire. 10 Artists x £100 = £1000

There are lots of other things we would love to be able to fund and we are trying other funding sources but if we can pull these costs from community crowd funding we would love to be able to do so! Please spread the word and donate if you are able.
