Feminine Hygiene Kits for Tanzanian Girls

This July a team of us had planned to return to Tanzania, Africa to continue our building and charity efforts. Covid has since changed these plans but we’re adamant to roll on full steam ahead with helping the girls of Moivaro Village, Tanzania.
On our last trip to Moivaro we noticed an overwhelming need for basic hygiene products, young children and teens were often coming up to us asking for items such as tooth brushes and toothpaste.
This triggered a thought, what are the young women in the village doing for feminine hygiene?
Disposables are expensive and out of reach for those living in poverty, so cloth pads came to mind. As long as the girls have access to water, cloth pads are a viable option.
A quick google search and this awesome company, Days For Girls, was found. They offer cleverly designed hygiene kits to help and empower females all around the globe.
Girls are often forced into isolation or made to hide and feel ashamed as they don’t have the knowledge and tools to manage their period. This is unnecessary and proven to be dangerous. We’re hoping to break through the stigma surrounding menstruation, one kit at a time.
I’m hoping to raise enough money to order 100 of these DfG kits and distribute it around Moivaro Village in Tanzania in July 2020.
One kit is currently $7.50 US, translating to around $11.60 AUD.
For roughly $12, a young girl is given a kit with the tools she needs to feel empowered and the knowledge to improve her quality of life. This is game changing. For these girls, the positive effects of these kits are experienced on a day to day basis.
If $1200, is raised, that would mean 100 kits for the girls of Moivaro Village. These kits last 3 years, are tried and tested and are designed to be used by women living in poverty. Basic education will also be given on hygiene and how to care for and use the kits.
