THE WONDER TWINS!
WHO IS BLONDIE THE WONDER KITTEN?
Four months ago an unlikely furry family adopted my parents when a kitten named Blondie and his roommates Peter (a groundhog), Paul (a raccoon), and Edie and Heidi (a very chubby opossum with her big baby in tow) started hanging out in an old dog house in the front yard of my parent's home at their ranch in Wisconsin (long since closed).
They have all gotten very chubby because my parents feed them well with contributions from the local pet food store...:-)
The night before a freezing Thanksgiving my aunt decided to welcome Blondie into our home. After 90 minutes of searching, she found Blondie hiding in the garage limping severely having had his left hind leg shattered by a car according to his veterinarian While Blondie is happily living in our home, he needs emergency surgery (examined by Dr. Schultz at Companion Animal Hospital in Madison, WI).

- Blondie's roommates, Edie and Heidi (above)
Blondie's approximate Surgical & Therapy costs include
Originally
1) Femur Surgery $4,500
2) Retained testicle correction and neuter $1, 400
3) Laser Light therapy (2x a week for 2 months) $800
TOTAL $6,700
(REVISED 12/20/2018)
A) Blondie's hip surgery, fortunately, cost much less than the clinic's original prediction, and they were able to combine the Femur surgery with the Retained testicle correction and neuter for a revised total of $3,500
B) We are skipping the light therapy in Wisconsin and doing therapy at home saving another $800
C) Additional veterinary post operation costs $500
REVISED SUBTOTAL $4,000
[TOTAL SAVINGS $2,700]
- Blondie in his open crate at my parent's home (he prefers to stay inside of it an move very little because of the lack of mobility and pain - above)
- Blondie's broken femur X-Ray (one of four horrific ones)
- Blondie's Femur Post Op
WHO IS RAVEN THE WONDER HUSKY?
Raven is a young Husky mix (we think Malamute) puppy, was dumped at a West LA shelter on Thanksgiving with a horrific injury.
- Raven's good side resting angelically
Just like Blondie, Raven had had a terrible Thanksgiving, also sustaining a shattered hind left leg. Her femur was protruding through her leg (an 'open' compound fracture) and had become blackish-brown and necrotic.

- Above is a picture of how Raven's femur arrived (this is BEFORE the necrotic marrow was cleaned and removed, not painful at all after a week of neglect)
- After the infected and necrotic bone and marrow was cleaned, debrided and removed, pre to mid-surgery
She was stabilized and surgery was performed the following Monday. We are unsure of what happened to Raven, but obviously, her owners did not have the funding nor interest to care for this super loving, playful, and trusting little angel properly and abandoned Raven.
The shelter planned on euthanizing her by day's end as the most humane solution. That's when the shelter contacted Lisa Arturo at Hope For Paws and the organization stepped in and stepped up.
Hope For Paws funded Raven's prohibitively expensive surgery, but she was going to need at minimum a 2 week Foster Home.

When I saw this video, I immediately reached out to find out how I could help Raven. Lisa promised to keep me informed and a few days later Lisa informed me that I was her Foster!
I took Raven home with me to Santa Monica where she has been recouping by my side ever since.
I hope to be allowed to become, what they lovingly refer to as a "Foster Fail" and keep Raven forever....:-)

- Raven's Post Op
Raven is still very much in a precarious state and needs around the clock care and attention.
My family and I appreciate any support with the necessary therapy and on-going treatments that an injury of this gravity demands.
Raven's approximate therapy costs include:
1) Laser Light Therapy (2x a wk for a minimum of 2 months) $800
* (Laser light therapy is typically 4x this amount, but we have had a very generous offer from friends in San Jose, California and this quote is based on that estimate).
We have set the goal of our campaign for $7,500 (see revised number below) to include both Raven and Blondie's medical needs.
[REVISED 12/20/2018 TOTAL PER SAVINGS ABOVE = $7,500 - $2,700 = $4,800]
Though both Raven and Blondie had tragic compound-fracture femur Thanksgivings, they are both loved and lucky to be alive, and we are grateful for our Thanksgiving miracles... and your support and shares!
