Feral Cat Rescue Shelter Septic System

Donation protected
We are thrilled to announce that The Feral Cat Rescue shelter has found a new home. After having to leave the previous location on 3rd line of Melancthon in February of 2021, the shelter cats had to be relocated to sheds and foster homes while the shelter was dismantled and parked in a field. That meant that hydro was removed, the outdoor enclosure dismantled, the contents inside the shelter (including cages) had to be put in storage and the building was decommissioned.

The risk of being asked to move again was too much of an expense and stress on the cats and volunteers. So Sharon decided to buy land that will be a permanent home for the cats and would be written in her will to be used for the cats forevermore. A piece of property was found in Riverview. 1.25 acres that was on the outskirts of town. She had to take a chance and apply for rezoning and hope that the location was acceptable and that community would not oppose.

On September 2nd a council meeting was held where the Rezoning By Law was passed. The appeal period needed to be observed and it ended on October 4th. On October 5th applications went in for a building and septic permit and on October 29th the permits were issued.

What happens next???

1) The driveway, entrance and culvert need to be put in along with the pad for the portables
2) The portables will be moved onto the pad and reassembled.
3) The septic will be installed and a raised bed style is required.
4) Hydro needs to be brought in from Hydro one and reconnected to the portables again.
5) Building and sewer inspections are finalized by Dufferin County, and only then are cats permitted to occupy the premises and the rescue becomes operational.

This fundraiser is to help with the highest cost of the project which is the Raised Bed Septic. We have received a quote of $30,000 or higher as the cost of materials has apparently gone up due to supply and demand.

The Feral Cat Rescue is the ONLY one of its kind in the province of Ontario. It provides sanctuary and rehabilitation for feral cats that do not do well in shelters and also will enjoy access to a very large outdoor enclosure. It is operated entirely from donations and by volunteers who give their time generously to care for and manage the cats and shelter operations and fundraisers. Open houses will be a weekly event on Saturdays. We are always available for community support with controlling overpopulation and education on managing outdoor cats.

Every small donation helps to make this much needed shelter a safe place for these outdoor cats that need us the most. We are so thankful to all of our supporters who have followed our journey and stayed by our side as we continued our fight to provide this service to our community cats. Thank you So Much!! We cant wait to see you all again at The Feral Cat Rescue.
