Residents of Feros Campaign Fund
Donation protected
Hello and thank you for considering our fundraiser.
We are a group of family members whose parents and some of our friends, live in Feros Byron Bay.
On the 28th of February, we were advised rather abruptly that the Board had decided to close this facility.
Over the last two months we have been attempting to consult with the Board and Management regarding the closure and proposed redevelopment. They have refused all attempts.
We now know that this land and the facility do not belong to feros. They have no permission to redevelop this site.
We want to keep this aged care home in our community and we have requested that the management of this site and home be handed over to someone else.
We have the support of all three levels of Government to support this request and we are raising money to support the campaign to keep this village in our community.
There are still residents living in the village and they have no intention of moving.
We are asking for community support to help us raise these funds.
Here is some background about this incredible facility.
In the 1980's a local named George Feros, he is the one in the top left-hand corner of the photos, needed support for his ageing parents. With no solution available, he took to the streets of Byron Bay with a bell and a box to raise money to build the solution.
If you have ever visited Byron Bay you may have been in the arcade that is named after him - the one with the best tacos in town!
George is definitely a local hero and encapsulates a deep sense of community and care. The two traits that built this care facility in the heart of Byron Bay.
Locals all know the story and many were part of actually building this amazing facility. It really is part of the heart of this community.
George clearly knew what he was doing, which is usually the case when you are doing something from your heart and have the community in mind, this facility is STILL one of the best in the state.
He knew this was not going to be something for his parents but for many parents in generations to come. We are now fighting in his shadow for the same thing.
George walked the streets with his bell and box and we are now doing the same thing, 2023 style, we hope we do him proud.
The funds that were raised to build this village came from the community (682,000) and from the three levels of government ($30,000 from the state.$1000,000 from the local council and the federal government matched the combination to build the village).
The organisation of Feros did not exist before this facility was built.
This is a home built by the community and the community want to keep it.
We know that giving right now for some may be a stretch and we welcome anything you have spare and we also know that there are people who are looking for ways to support communities. We hope that you both consider this favourably.
To be clear this fundraising is for legal fees, filings, campaign costs and other expenses that we may incur in defending our Parent's and friends' rights.
With gratitude and appreciation
