Festus Gonteb School COVID-19 Relief Effort
Donation protected
Coronavirus has affected everyone we know – including people around the world who are far less fortunate.
We are Daniel Kurth, from Baerenbach, Germany, and Jakob Segal, from Wynnewood, PA, USA. Last summer we had the opportunity to visit Namibia, where we have family. The highlight of the trip was a visit to Mondesa, an impoverished apartheid era township outside the small city of Swakopmund. There, we spent time talking with students at Festus Gonteb Primary School, where the teacher taught a large group of students who were filled with enthusiasm, hope, determination to learn, and dreams of visiting our countries some day. We had plans of returning to the school and of helping with their endless need for assistant teachers, but Covid-19 put an end to any “gap year” plans. We reached out to the teacher to see how they are doing, and the situation is a catastrophe. The whole country, including the school, is on lockdown. Students have no money for food since their parents cannot work, and they are begging outside of the teacher’s house for food who has no money himself since he had to stop working a month ago. Namibia has also given their citizens small payments to help them through the crisis, but it is not nearly enough.
We know that many people are suffering right now and there are many worthwhile charities in the world. This is one that has touched our hearts. We met these students and their teacher and were inspired and humbled by what we saw. We are trying to raise money so that the students can be fed throughout this difficult time. Our uncle, formerly a cabinet level minister in Namibia, lives in Swakopmund and will direct the money to the right people. We would greatly appreciate any donation that you are willing to give, small or large, and we encourage you to spread the message.
If you have any questions feel free to reach out to us any time:
