Pay It Forward | Help Joan Beat Cancer

Donation protected
We are family and friends who are advocates for Joan Burnett. We want to ensure that she receives the best medical treatment to fight and win this death-dealing disease. Earlier this year we opened up and shared publicly about our mother’s diagnosis and disease and became extremely vulnerable when we decided that sharing her current health challenges and recent diagnosis was bigger than our fear of rejection, our privacy and the uncertainty of what support we would get from friends, acquaintances, clients, and good Samaritans who we may not know when we sought help to finance her treatment to fight her cancer. So, it is with this vulnerability and surrealness that we once again ask your financial support to help her fight for her life against this death-dealing disease, uterine cancer; the fourth most common cancer for women in the United States according to Cancer.net.

For those who have already contributed so generously out of the kindness of their hearts to our cause, we say thank you!

Joan, our mother has contributed so much through her entire life in so many ways to her family, friends, and to those whom she hardly knew. Caring and raising three children and a niece as a tenacious young mother was evident in how she always sought the best schooling, neighborhoods, etc for her family. This care also included her elderly parents until their passing. For three-plus years, she once again became the primary caretaker and aided our father back to health and recovery from several life-threatening illnesses. Without hesitation, she selflessly used her vacation time, and family-leave to stay with him to ensure he would get the best care, while willing extending her time despite without an income. Her willingness to help family, friends, and anyone in need, is why we are now asking others to help us pay it forward to her and her cause.

Update on Joan’s diagnosis

Since her early detection and diagnosis this year, she was told that her disease was slow-growing and contained. After several testing and prior to her surgery that was scheduled this past August, the recent CAT-Scan showed progression in the disease and that the disease was NOT slow growing but aggressive in nature.

The surgery that was scheduled initially was going to be non-invasive (robotic), however, after the first incision and observation, her surgeon skillfully and brilliantly decided that the robotic surgery scheduled for (3 hours) would be insufficient and switch from the robotic surgery to the traditional operation that lasted seven (7 hours) due to the disease advancement. Although the surgery was successful, the pathology report and findings have returned and state that the disease is stage four and aggressive. She will need post-anti-cancer care. Her surgeon has stated that not many women who reached this stage could survive the surgery.

Details on Joan’s time at the hospital and after being released

After her surgery, the following days were rocky and unnerving due to her weakened state. Eventually, she was released after she was able to use the bathroom on her own. Shortly thereafter she returned home, we had to take her to urgent care because she was running a low-grade temperature, she was not holding down food and had excessive bowel movements. You can only imagine how weak she became while trying to manage the pain from her stomach being cut open along with the discomfort and weakness. Thankfully, she responded positively to the IV and electrolytes and was sent home that evening.

She is slowly on the road to recovery from this life-saving operation which has now given us the opportunity to now race the clock to aggressively seek the strongest and most targeted treatment to give her the best odds in beating this disease. We are seeking donations to help us offset some of the medical expenses that are or will be incurred with her treatment that will not or is not covered by her health insurance.

Joan is now ready for anti-cancer treatments

Joan is now ready for her for anti-cancer treatment and post-surgery recovery and needs your financial contribution(s) and support to spread the word to help us reach our goal of $40,000 by October 1st.

We have seen the amazing support that this community has given to others to make it possible to reach their financial contribution goals to continue to support great causes and to help the people or causes they love and care about.  We believe with enough shares and contributions we too can successfully reach our goal of $40,000 to help Joan get her treatment.

It is our fervent and heartfelt desire to continue to care for Joan, our mom, and friend as she deserves the care she has given to many others and ask that you help us to pay it forward to help raise the funds needed to get her treatment by October 1st, 2019.

Your willing spirit and generous donations will help us get off to a strong start and prayerfully a successful finish.

Traditional Recommended Treatment

·         The recommended treatment is traditional Chemotherapy and radiation by the doctors. Some patients may opt for this being the best treatment for them and should be respected. Each person must decide what is the BEST medical care for “them”, not what anyone thinks is best or may agree to or disagree with. That is the right we all have as individuals. Support is what is needed to these Ill ones at this time, not approval.
