HELP AUTHOR JULIAN LEATHERDALE FIGHT LIVER CANCER
Donation protected
Julian Leatherdale is a much-loved author of Australian fiction, best known for his novels Palace of Tears and The Opal Dragonfly. He’s also a playwright and lifetime supporter of the literary arts. He needs our help now as he faces the fight of his life against inoperable primary liver cancer. Julian’s prognosis is grim. There is no cure for his cancer. He has been receiving ongoing treatment for the past nine months but has reached the end of the road with the conventional drug and radiation therapies.
There is a new treatment called theranostics which delivers radioactive drugs to selectively target receptors on tumour cells. It has been used in advanced cancers that have not responded to other treatments. This approach may well improve Julian’s quality of life and even give him the chance of prolonging his life.
As we all know, these kinds of medical challenges are very expensive, and Julian’s finances are already extremely pressured. Initial treatment will cost $12,000, and if further treatments are possible, that figure will rise to $25,000 - $50,000, depending on its effectiveness. It would mean the world to Julian to be able to give this new treatment a shot, and to alleviate the financial burden on his wife, Claire Corbett, also an author, and his two teenaged children. Any donations received will go direct to Julian for this fight, and any amount you can spare will be enormously appreciated.
With heartfelt thanks from his friends,
Kim Kelly & Selwa Anthony
UPDATE FROM JULIAN & CLAIRE
26 February 20202
Julian and Claire flew to Perth last week. Julian had his first round of actinium-225 theranostics treatment on Friday 21st. He will have more blood tests and scans and a formal review with his doctors sometime in the next 4-6 weeks. It is most likely two more rounds of treatment will be recommended to have maximum impact on the tumours.
Julian and Claire have been overwhelmed by the generosity of donors and the outpouring of love, support and good wishes from friends and community. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
