Clean Clothes for Kids

Donation protected
Shame and dirty clothes prevent kids from being educated. This is an easy fix.

I once heard a story about how someone simply put a washing machine and dryer in a lower socioeconomic school and attendance dramaticly increased.

There were a large number of kids at that school who were either homeless, had unstable housing, or whose family didn’t have access to washing machines and could not afford the needed trips to the laundrymat to wash thier clothes.

So these kids had to wear the same smelly, soiled clothes over and over again to school...this includes underwear and socks.  To prevent getting ridiculed by thier peers, many students would fake being sick or just skip school. The excessive absences led to lower grades and sometimes eventually dropping out. Some kids avoid joining the school's athletic teams because they have no way to wash their practice clothes.

The fix is to put washing machines and dryers in the school so teachers, coaches, counselors and even parents can wash kids’ clothes there for free.

I’ve had teachers, principles and administrators tell me personally that this problem is real in Nashville.

I’ve helped coordinate about 10 donations for Nashville Public Schools with the funding of NATD and the coordination of Nashville Communities In Schools (CIS,) the Pencil Foundation, as well as Community Achieves.

I will continue to work with CIS, Community Achieves, Pencil Foundation, and Nashville Metro Schools to identify the needed schools and arrange the donations. All money raised will go to 1. Purchasing washers and dryers, 2. Purchasing a 5 year unlimited warrantee/service agreement, 3. Purchasing washing detergent.

My goal is to do washer/dryer installations for 10 Nashville Metro Schools and hopefully that will cover the need. I will take photos of each donation so you can see the money you contribute at work.

All money donated, no matter how much, is appreciated and will be used.

UPDATE 2/13/20: To date we have placed 14 sets of machines in about 12 schools. In the process of surpassing my original goal, I've discovered that there are 2,200 documented homeless kids and another estimated 3,000 undocumented kids currently in the Nashville School System, spread over 122 schools. That means we are still at the bottom of this mountain, however, I know how to climb it...and I would love to have you climb it with me.
