Andres Hernandez Cancer Treatments

Hi, my name is Kelly and I am raising funds for my husband Andres Hernandez medical bills. In November 2023, my husband started feeling like something was stuck in his throat. While at home one night, and this may sound funny, but he passed out from laughing too hard and fell to the ground and smashed his face. A few days later, he got up to go to the bathroom and collapsed. I called 911 and the paramedics took him to a local hospital where they did 3 CT scans and told us he had a 10 centimeter mass in his chest which looked to be Lymphoma. We were devastated. Because of the location of the mass, we were transferred to another hospital in the area where we were to see a cardio thoracic surgeon who could take a biopsy of the mass and help determine what exactly it was. The surgeon did an operation called VATS where they go in through the ribs, deflate the lung, take a chunk of the mass and reinflate the lung. Because of this type of operation, Andres had to have a chest tube in for 24 hrs. The day after the chest tube came out, and the day we were supposed to come home, the surgeon's PA came in and said Andres lung had collapsed 40% and we could not go home. Andres had to have another chest tube put in and stayed in the hospital for another 3 days. While in the hospital, we got the results from the biopsy as normal tissue. Obviously, this was not normal. After 8 days in the hospital, Andres lung was back to normal and he was finally able to come home. The surgeon then had us go in for a Chest X-ray and a PET Scan. Unfortunately, the PET Scan didn't help answer our questions. The surgeon felt that since the scan showed his lymph nodes were swollen, another biopsy was needed. This time of his lymph nodes. The day of the surgery (Monday, December 18th) comes and we are back at the hospital, this time as an outpatient operation. The surgeon put a rush on the results so we could have answers that day. If the results came back cancer, he would put in a port so Andres could start chemo. If they came back as benign, then no port. Unfortunately, the results came back inconclusive and we still had no answers. The surgeon said he would send the biopsy to an outside lab but it would be 3-5 business days before we got an answer. By Thursday, December 21st, we had our answer. Andres was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. Immediately we were set up with an oncologist and had an appointment for December 29th. At that appointment, the doctor told us what the treatment would be (chemo) and the process for that. The surgeon that did both Andres biopsies would put in the port that Andres will need for the chemo to be administered. On the 16th of January, Andres will go in for a lung test to determine how his lungs are before chemo starts. Chemo treatments will be 1 day every 2 weeks for at least 6 months. While this type of cancer is treatable and curable, it's still cancer. It's still scary. Andres is currently on short-term disability with his employer, however, that's all the income we have coming in. We have a 12 year old daughter and two dogs to take care of as well. Anything that can be contributed would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Kelly Hernandez
