Hi, I’m Timm Martin, one of Harvey Mandel’s best friends,

I’ve known Harvey forever, I played bass in his band back in the 70s, and I’ve been his manager throughout his music career. You might have heard that I’m raising money to help Harvey Mandel beat cancer. It’s been a terrible, long fight. <insert Timm & Harvey photo>

Harvey encountered a series of health problems beginning in 2011, when he noticed unusual swelling following a broken nose. Initially believing that the swelling was a consequence of the break, and distracted by personal issues, he put off an in-depth exam until mid-2013, when doctors discovered he was dealing with cancer inside his nose. Doctors removed most of his nose to cut the cancer out. A series of more than 30 reconstructive surgeries followed, and Harvey was pronounced cancer free.

But last year the cancer returned, ruining all the reconstruction of his nose. Harvey has undergone several more surgeries and faces still more. As a result his finances have been demolished from the original surgeries that kept him from working. And now Covid has kept him from playing, keeping him buried with debt.

With these recent surgeries, his medical debt has risen to $35,000. So, I’m trying to help Harvey raise money. I’m encouraged by the support I’ve already received, but I still need help reaching my fundraising goal of $35,000.

A pioneer of modern electric blues from Chicago, Harvey “The Snake” Mandel is considered by critics to be one of the best. Harvey is known for his innovative approach to playing electric guitar. A professional at twenty, he played with Charlie Musselwhite, Canned Heat, The Rolling Stones and John Mayall before starting a successful solo career. "A hugely influential giant of instrumental rock" and "the best known in pop guitar." Harvey is cited as a major influence by many of today's music superstars. I agree with the citations, but we need to get Harvey back to playing guitar!
