FHA Senior Class of 2020
Please allow me to introduce Forest Heights Academy's Senior class of 2020, formally of Marsh Harbour, Abaco, Bahamas
On September 1, 2019 Hurricane Dorian devastated our community, our school, our homes and our lives. Dorian goes on record to be the strongest hurricane ever to hit the Bahamas. We endured 220 mph winds along with over 20' of storm surge for over 30 hours. By the grace of God, all of the students & staff survived, some losing everything except for the clothes on their backs.
Being the hardy and resourceful people of Abaco, all of the students were evacuated from the island and placed in homes across North America where they could attend school. Some are living with distant family, others with friends until their parents can pick up the pieces.
What all of the kids have in common is that their families are no longer together. Many families lost their homes, they also lost their source of income as well since so many of them rely on tourism in Abaco.
Abaco is a very small close knit community, many of the students have known each other & schooled together for their entire lives. Not only is it beyond hard for them to be away from their homes, their families, they are now away from their best friends too.
Previously with all other senior classes at FHA, the kids take a senior class trip in the spring to Orlando, FL. They work very hard to fundraise for over a year to be able to fund the trip. The senior class trip allows those students to go to Orlando, FL and visit attractions like Universal Studios. For some students, this is the trip of a lifetime to fly to the states and see all the sites with their class mates.
Unfortunately, the senior class of 2020 will never walk the FHA school grounds together ever again. They have been robbed of the many opportunities that being a senior brings.
It is our goal to raise enough money to be able to bring the FHA Senior class of 2020 back together one last time. We are going to organize a Senior class trip for them, to Orlando, FL, very similar to what they would have experienced had Hurricane Dorian never happened.
We would love all of the students to reconnect one last time and to be able to see each other.
Since the students are in so many different schools, with different school calendars, we are planning this trip for June 2020. Just in time to have all of them celebrate their graduations from different schools together.
Please join us in helping this class reunite!!! We thank you, as every contribution counts!!!
