A few folks asked for a way to contribute more than their UNRally ticket price, so we created this Gofundme account for the UNRally > Fields School donation.
The Fields School was founded in 1900 with one room and one teacher. Now - 120 years later - it has two rooms, two teachers, and a teacher's aid educating 16 children from K through 8th grade. I called Stacey, one of the teachers, earlier this week to discuss the donation.The timing and scale (over $6k raised so far!) will be very meaningful, because they are facing some budget issues with the state due to COVID.
Here is what Stacey said in a follow-up email.
"The generosity of your group is truly remarkable and will be so impactful to our little school and community. We are very fortunate to have people like Jaide and Jake Downs [from Fields Station] in our community who care so much about our school and are willing to put people like you in touch with us. I'm left a little speechless."
They are very excited about the donation. The funds will be used for "science kits, compound microscopes, novels and picture books for read aloud, language arts center activities, and supplies for the newspaper and classroom.”
This is a great way for us to positively impact the small community of Fields, and to build some relationships for the UNRally that extend beyond the store, the hot spring, and the BLM.
