FIGHT BACK 4 ASTARA DANCE COMPANY'S FIRE DAMAGE

Hi, My name is Rob Howard and I'm Tara Howards Dad. Tara is the Owner of the Astara Dance Company in Townsville QLD. If you are local to Townsville you will have most probably seen the devastating story on several media platforms (social and commercial) reporting on the fire that was deliberately lit in the early morning hours at the ADC Studio (25/5/23). It has caused extensive damage to the building inside and out and has destroyed thousands of dollars worth of equipment (Was not insured for Fire, only theft), including crash mats, air tracks, balance blocks, the entire studio sound system, balance beams, chairs, the wall mirrors and the list goes on. Tara is not aware that I am doing this and is the type who would not set this up herself. This is where Dad comes in. Tara started Astara Dance Company around 8 years ago, against all odds. Within a short time, it was very apparent ADC was here to stay. Tara, with her ever-growing staff and students slowly built a reputation, where her professional standard and dedication lead to a brilliant dance standard recognised by others in the industry. The Astara dance company studio was also a safe place for children of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. The rich and happy family

environment that was part of ADC became one of its notable attractions. Kids would get there early, and leave late where they would do homework or stay for more practice. In a nutshell, Tara, her staff, students and all the families involved are left quite devastated by such a void. Practice and preparation for the mid-year concert were in full swing, with extra classes, costume prep and all that goes with it, but there is so much equipment now damaged, it is going to be so difficult to continue until at least the building is repaired. Tara has had some offers of premises to practice at by some lovely locals, although the equipment will severely restrict a lot of the normal practice and activity, even with the best intentions. This is where the majority of funds will be going, replacing the Equipment.

I have seen the blood sweat and tears that Tara has put into this brilliant Dance Studio, only enhanced by the fantastic staff and so many parents that support, contribute and help maintain the safe place aspect of this studio that the students have learnt to trust, learn and thrive in. It really is a unique environment.

To get this brilliant studio back on its feet sooner than later, I'm asking for anyone who is in the position to help with any size donation, to do so. It will be greatly appreciated and any funds will be used to expedite the purchase of much-needed equipment and will also contribute to things such as chairs and all of the other items such as rails and large wall mirrors. There are so many local kids that normally come to this studio, sometimes 4 or 5 days a week. This fire has left so many of them feeling lost, depressed, angry and genuinely sad. I see this GoFundMe page also as a way to demonstrate to these kids, that there are way more good people in Townsville willing to help than those who are like the ones who did what they did to the studio.

As a dad, I'm simply trying to help my daughter get through one of the worst times of her life, she is shattered by this whole incident and still has to endure the flow-on effect as it unfolds. She is a rock star in her own right, not to mention a brilliant Dance Studio owner and operator who benefits so many local kids and in my opinion, is somewhat of a catalyst to their success and progress in such formative years.
