Fight fish to fight cancer
Promoting Quality Family Time and getting Children Outdoors while Supporting the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
One morning last summer, Mike Tapocik got a call from his mom, who was in tears.
“Your dad’s cancer’s back,” Claudette Tapocik told her son.
The Riverside resident acted right away. He called the Prostate Cancer Foundation and decided to hold a fishing tournament to raise money to find a cure for the disease.
Tapocik organized The Catch Tour, a fishing competition March 22 at Little Lake in Hemet, to benefit the foundation, a Santa Monica-based nonprofit that supports prostate cancer research. Teams, which can include up to five members, must include a child age 16 or under accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“Everybody knows about breast cancer,” said Tapocik, 34, who runs OFBoutdoors.com, an online fishing, hunting and outdoors forum. “Prostate cancer is just as fatal for men as breast cancer is for women.
