I’m writing this with a heavy heart to let most that do not already know Marc Horne has been diagnosed with Hemochromatosis of the Liver. This condition is caused by your body absorbing too much Iron and can damage several of your major organs over time.
Unfortunately with Marc’s diagnosis, he apparently has been living with this condition for a very long time. Due to this condition his liver has been severely damaged, and he unfortunately will need a liver transplant in order to survive!
Marc has seen several specialist over the last several months and will continue to have weekly procedures performed to try and help his condition. These procedures are designed to either slightly improve or at the very least stabilize it until hopefully he can get a liver transplant and beat this terrible condition!
He is currently talking to all the powers to be so that he can be put on the liver transplant list very quickly and has a long road to recovery ahead of him.
For the many of you that are fortunate to know Marc, he’s a great person, loving husband and a wonderful father to both of his children. He’s also a devoted friend to so many and has always been the type of person that would do anything in a time of need for them if he could!
Unfortunately during this difficult time the doctor bills are mounting up by the week, along with other expenses. All of the expenses have now become an unimaginable burden and hardship on Marc and his family. Sadly with his failing health condition, it’s now a reality that he will no longer be able to stay employed to help offset these major expenses that would certainly put a horrible strain on most any family financially.
Marc is now facing a challenge of a lifetime to say the least. He and his entire family are definitely going to need all the love and support that they can possibly receive from anyone that is willing to provide those things to them during this difficult time.
As with most challenges in life, they are hard, and I mean extremely hard. The smallest of things we all take for granted during our daily lives sometimes get hidden behind our daily struggles and don’t let most of us wake up everyday knowing how lucky we are just to be fortunate enough to have the simple pleasure of the sun shining on our face or just take a deep breath of fresh air.
So let’s come together for Marc and his family to help take some of the financial stress off of him while he fights this awful condition. Marc is a FIGHTER!!! So I know with the love and support from anyone willing to provide these things, he can beat this challenge and maybe he can enjoy a lot more sun shine on his face for a long time to come!
God bless everyone that took the time to read this story and please keep Marc and his family in your prayers.
UPDATE: Hello everyone, thought I would give an update on Marc and thank everyone again for all the love, support and kind generosity that the Horne’s have received from everyone during this difficult time. It’s truly been a blessing but there is still a very long road ahead for Marc to get healthy.
So Marc is leaving on April 3 to head to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. They will start the full evaluation on April 4 (his birthday) thru April 8th. Hopefully, if everything goes as scheduled, he will be on the transplant list with 2-3 weeks of completion. He will also be able to begin having people tested who are interested in being a Live Donor. Luckily he has a few people (including his son Nicholas) who are interested in participating which in upon itself is very humbling. I guess that’s why they call it the “Gift of Life”.
But unfortunately this is where the real expenses begin. Flights, hotel stays, food expenses, transportation, etc. They have him on a regimen of drugs everyday with so many side effects that he stopped reading about them and stay focused on hopefully not having any.
The extensive evaluation is a process in upon itself. The schedule is brutal over those 5 days. They will drug test him, alcohol test him, check his entire body for cancer including a mammogram, have him do a colonoscopy, an endoscopy, meet with a psychiatrist to determine if he is mentally able to withstand surgery.
So everyone keep Marc in your prayers and please share this link to anyone that might be kind enough to help the Horne’s during this terrible time.
