Cancer is an illness that has touched every person’s life in some form. Whether directly or indirectly it is a devastating diagnosis that everyone fears. That diagnosis directly impacted our lives this past year. My strong and hard working Dad, Frankie, was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer. This, combined with his congestive heart failure, created a very scary reality for all of us. Treatment had to wait until his heart was strong enough. Dad was able to begin his treatment in early spring and finished it in early May. At first he was stronger and like a new man but by the end he was physically ravaged from the radiation. My sweet Mama, Bonnie, has been by his side every second. We are so blessed for the love, prayers, and support from family and friends through this battle. A battle that has left both my parents devastated, in all aspects. The physical, mental, and emotional devastation we knew was coming, but what no one was prepared for was the financial devastation the cancer would also bring. Neither of my parents have been able to work, regularly, since this battle began. Daily appointments and weekly check ups have consumed their lives. All of their savings was quickly gone to keep everything current. However, with a loss of all income, and no immediate change coming, they need help more than ever. My Dad’s treatments are fortunately covered by programs at Baptist. However, none of his medication are, nor is there any assistance available for bills and life expenses. Any support and assistance that can be given to help fund them at this time would mean the world to our family. My Dad is a fighter, my Mom is just as much of a fighter for the both of them. I’m blessed to have them both. Our family is just as blessed to have the people around us that we do that are able to support them in this very trying time. Although this battle is not done, we will fight on.
