Fight Fund For Gareth

Team, one of our most loved, diligent and steadfast colleagues is in need of our assistance!

On the 17th of August Gareth Aucock and his partner (Juliet) were happily celebrating his birthday, life was great! Gareth and Juliet had been moving house that week and were settling into their new home. Gareth has a beautiful little daughter named Violet who is 2 years old and is the light of his life.

At 12am that evening Gareth and Juliet's’ lives would change forever.

Juliet was woken by Gareth gasping for air, Gareth was having a catastrophic asthma attack and had now passed out in his battle for life.  Juliet, while under enormous stress wasted no time and called 000 for an ambulance, all the while performing CPR on Gareth as he had now stopped breathing. Juliet continued performing CPR for over 20 agonising minutes.

Finally the ambulance arrived and 6 paramedics called on all their training to keep Gareth breathing and save Gareth's life. For 20 minutes Gareth was without his vital signs, with no heartbeat, and hope fading all of their efforts seemed in vain. A glimmer of hope still remained and when they arrived at the Gold Coast Hospital, Gareth's lifeless body was rushed to the ICU where doctors wasted no time in administering life saving treatment via the state of the art ECMO life support machine. At this stage the prognosis was not good and the Doctors did not give Gareth much hope on surviving the next 48 hours.

His family prepared themselves for the worst.

Gareth (a new Dad to Violet, 2yo) is a fighter!! If there ever was a time to fight.. It's now and Violet is his reason to fight.

To any of you that know Gareth like I do you would not be surprised to hear that Gareth was not going anywhere!

48 hours turned to 72, 72 to 96 and 96 into 7 days. Gareth slept in an induced coma for three and a half weeks while the Doctors performed various tests on Gareth. Against all odds the Doctors slowly brought Gareth out of his coma. With this great news his family were over the moon. Unfortunately this amazing news was accompanied by the harsh truth that neurological damage caused by his illness would mean that Gareth would need 2+ years of rehabilitation and 24 hour care while on his road to recovery.

Gareth has been transferred from the GCUH to the PA Hospitals Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit in Brisbane (BIRU). BIRU at the PA is one of the most recognised institutions for injuries like Gareths. He is in the safest hands in the business.

This is where YOU, Gareth's friends and Gareth's Family can help make a difference in his recovery.

The road Gareth and his Family are on is not an easy one.
