Help fight Abby’s cancer and Daniel’s tragic accident

Friends, Family, Neighbors & Colleagues:

As you may or may not know, the Valdesi family (Paul, Pam, Daniel and Abby) of Berlin, CT have been experiencing some extreme challenges and could really use our help. Abby, 16, has been battling leukemia and has been in the hospital day and night for most of the last six months. She is a really strong kid and fighter but cancer and chemotherapy is not easy on anyone. There has been severe side effects to the treatment that have nearly landed her in the ICU. Paul, Pam and Daniel have been keeping her company and helping brighten up the tough days in the hospital and helping her deal with the diagnosis. She has been completing her studies from the hospital and hopes to get back to school in person for her senior year. Her family and friends have been super supportive and they are thankful for the kindness shown to them. The strain on the family has been tough but they have been able to manage.

Until this past weekend, when something unthinkable happened. Daniel, their son, was involved in a serious motorcycle accident on the way to work at Hartford Hospital as a nurse. He has severe spinal and pelvic fractures among many other injuries and has been sedated since the accident on Sunday 4/28. He is in critical condition and is having surgeries almost daily in an attempt to repair some of the damage. The doctors said it will take a miracle for him to walk again. Daniel is just in his early 20's and Abby just a teenager.

Our hearts’ hurt for the entire family and what they have been through. The future is highly uncertain for Daniel at this point and the stress levels on all are concerning as you can imagine.

The financial needs will be significant as Daniel begins a new life-long journey to recovery once stabilized and the family works around the leukemia treatments Abby will continue to require. Let's step up and help this family persevere through these trying times.
