Join the fight for Ryan Myszak's life

I'm starting this on behalf of my close childhood friend, Ryan Myszak. Ryan is 38 years old and was diagnosed with stage 3 Multiple Myeloma on June 20th 2017. There is no cure for this aggressive cancer, only treatment. Just 7 months before that, Ryan and Lacie’s daughter Lexie was diagnosed with Leukemia. Cancer has become their life for the past 2 ½ years and no family deserves that. On March 1st 2019, Lexie received her last treatment and is in full remission but Ryan’s fight is far from over. Imagine trying to celebrate your daughter’s final treatment while being in a hospital bed. That’s exactly where Ryan had to celebrate – not by his wife and daughter’s side but hospitalized and fighting for his own life.
In the past 2 years, Ryan has relapsed 8 times and has had 9 different lines of treatment including a stem cell transplant, CAR T cell therapy and 7 different chemo regimens. The most recent relapse in March of 2019 resulted in a 7 ½ inch tumor that was compressing his spinal cord and he lost the ability to walk unassisted. He immediately began intense chemo and radiation that defeated the tumor. Ryan is going through physical therapy to help regain sensation in his legs but the recovery is very slow and he still needs assistance to walk. He is running out of treatment options at this point but his medical team found a clinical trial in New York City at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. He will be receiving a stem cell transplant from a donor during this trial and will need to be in New York City for 4 months. In order for him to participate, it’s mandatory that he has a 24/7 care companion. His family will be rotating time there in order to fulfill this obligation. This is going to be a large travel expense for their family but he will need them in order to recover. He will also need to be back in New York at the end of the year for 2 more months of treatment. Ryan hasn’t been able to work the past few months and will most likely not be able to work the rest of the year. With medical bills and missed income, their financial situation needs some support. Just the travel expenses for NYC alone will cost the family between $15,000 - $20,000 which doesn’t include other financial obligations. Medical bills will continue to increase and be a major financial strain for them. Ryan’s cancer is rare and the average age for someone diagnosed with it is 65. This is the ONLY treatment option for him right now and I would love to see everyone pull together to provide relief for the Myszak family.
Ryan and Lacie are amazing people and committed Christian’s with 3 daughters. They are hardworking and honest people who serve their community, church and loved ones daily. Anyone who has met Ryan knows that he is a fighter and is the most compassionate person. He has continued his commitment of giving back throughout all of his treatments. Currently, Ryan and Lacie are in the process of becoming “Wish Granters” for the Make a Wish Foundation where they will be able to deliver amazing news to children with cancer. I have known Ryan for 30 years and he is the most selfless person and always has been. He is determined to fight this battle and has maintained a positive attitude through everything they have encountered. Please consider supporting him and his family during this fight for his life.
