FIGHT SESSIONS FUND

AG Sessions is scheduled to publish a decision in Matter of A-B- today, a case that deals with whether victims of private harm, including unconscionable domestic violence, should continue to have access to our asylum system. The answer to this question, as a matter of law and a matter of morality, is yes. But Sessions is a monster, and I expect the decision today to be one that causes unimaginable harm to countless people until it is reversed by a federal court of appeals. Just last week, the Board of Immigration Appeals, which Sessions oversees, determined that a woman forced into slavery by Salvadoran guerrillas, who had to watch her husband dig his own grave, provided "material support to a terrorist organization," and was ineligible for asylum. By this logic, the millions who died in Nazi concentration camps would be ineligible for asylum. I am ashamed of my government. I am ashamed that there is not greater moral outrage from our society about the disregard that Sessions shows for the most vulnerable among us. But I could not be prouder to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with my fellow immigration lawyers, who will gather this week for our annual conference, as we strategize ways to fight this injustice in our court system. We will not back down. We will not sit by idly and watch our government be complicit in atrocities. We will not ignore the cries of mothers and children, of refugees, of survivors of gender violence and persecution. We will prevail. We are therefore creating this GoFundMe campaign to cover the costs involved in fighting his decisions as far as we can, all the way up to the Supreme Court if need be.
