Blockade For Water at Wilcannia
Donation protected
On the 13th of March, the Darling River community will blockade the bridge at Wilcannia. We are calling for an end to water trading in Australia. The people of the Darling river at Wilcannia and Menindee have been fighting the government for 30 years over the corruption, over-allocation and water speculation that has now destroyed our river systems and the cultural heritage of the aboriginal people. This struggle is critical for the survival of rural Australia. Desertification of inland Australia and total ecological collapse is immanent without large scale reform of a broken system that privileges multi-national corporations and export crops over the survival of its own citizens.
We are demanding the water be returned back to the environment, local framers/land holders and community's. We stand on aboriginal land, both above and below, always was and always will be. The commodification of water amounts to genocide of the river communities.
We will be holding ceremonies on the bridge, with dancing and music. We will tell the mighty rainbow serpent's dreaming story. All are welcome.
We are seeking financial assistance for food, drinking water and shelter for the people of Wilcannia and their supporters. Your support would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you there.
