Help Cara Fight Kidney Cancer

Update after Cara's surgeon appointment – Cara’s surgery is scheduled for the day before Thanksgiving. They need to run more tests and then get her immune system strong and ready for surgery. The doctor is concerned about Cara's ability to heal due to her autoimmune disease which is a connective tissue disorder so they will do the surgery robotic so that it is as minimally invasive as possible - the copays will be quite high! 

Dr. Eun said that there is a high likelihood that the cancer will come back so she will be closely monitored for life. They will also do genetic testing post-surgery because the doctor believes that Cara may have a Gene mutation that is causing her to have so many medical problems with no family history to blame. 

Unfortunately Cara lost her job the day she found out she has cancer and she will need to put her baking business on hold to focus on her health. Dan is also missing a lot of time from work and will run out of paid time off even before surgery not to mention the overtime he has lost that his family depends on. The financial stress and the stress on Cara's body will be extensive due to how long it will take Cara to bounce back after surgery and the stress of driving and hour and 45 minutes back and forth for care! But we are all staying as positive as possible and Cara has a great attitude and enough strength for all of us.

We are starting this fundraiser on behalf Cara Evans, an amazing mother of 3 boys (Cole 6, Caden 4 and Greyson 2), a wife to Dan, a loving daughter, sister, and friend to so many.

For those of you who may not be familiar with Cara's journey, she has been bravely battling autoimmune disease for an extended period. To monitor her internal organ health and function, she undergoes yearly tests that include sonograms. Unfortunately, during a sonogram in August, a tumor was discovered on her kidney. After a series of tests, Cara received the heart-wrenching news on September 28th that she has kidney cancer, requiring surgical intervention for removal.

The upcoming surgery aims to remove part of her kidney, but the tumor's challenging location presents the possibility of losing the entire kidney. This situation is further complicated by her autoimmune disease, which that alone attacks her organs and then makes the healing process of surgery even more difficult. The potential loss of part or all of her kidney could lead to significant medical issues in the future. Our collective prayers and hopes are for the best possible outcome.

Cara is scheduled to meet with one of the leading kidney surgeons at Temple University Hospital on October 3rd. We are reaching out to raise funds to cover missed time from work and copays.

Cara is not only a loving wife, mother, daughter, and friend but also one of the most resilient individual we know and she deserves the best chance at conquering this horrible disease.
