Having only begun processing our grief over the loss of our mother, our family has been dealt another major challenge by life. Our brother is known by many of you as Medicine Man Jose Garcia of BBJ Recovery. Over two weeks ago he was admitted to the Cardiac ICU upon finding he had a major heart attack that resulted in a blood clot the size of a quarter in his left ventricle.  Several complications occurred after that- two confirmed strokes leading to deficits on his left side affecting his speech, vision, and control/use of his left leg and arm. Despite such major complications, his fighter mindset has made it possible for him to overcome these complications within days. After only days, he is able to walk unassisted, use his left arm and hand, as well as overcome the effects on his speech. He still has hemispheric blindness that we hope will resolve completely. The quarter size clot in his left ventricle was resolved only to find a second clot in his left atrium that is still being addressed. We were told his heart functions currently at less than 15%... somewhere around 10%. His skilled cardiac team placed him on a powerful IV administered medication. Before the administration of Milrinone into a line inserted into his jugular directly to his heart, his heart was so weak his liver was being damaged by lack of blood flow and he was barely able to walk 10ft without feeling out of breath and ready to pass out. With the medication, his heart is stronger, his anxiety is gone and he is able to walk around the hospital and enjoy time in the atrium without feeling like he is at the doorstep of death. He has the luxury right now of hope- something we all need so badly. On the IV administered medication, he has the hope of living long enough to be considered for a heart transplant in 12 months. Without these meds, the doctors gave our family grim odds of a lifespan lasting only a handful of days to no more than 3 weeks. We were informed during a family meeting with his care team that there is an elevated potentiality his insurance will not cover this treatment upon his discharge from the hospital. In that event, we would need to pay out of pocket to keep our brother alive long enough to have a chance at a transplant and live a long life. He has only begun to find the truth of his soul's purpose. A large part of that purpose is all of you. The situation is very serious but Jose has the mindset and the desire to heal. Like a true warrior soul, he refuses to give up on life. He has shown during his time in the Cardiac ICU that his desire to live has created miraculous levels of healing. He has worked for years in the service of others, serving as their healer by utilizing his own sport recovery program and his hands. Now, our family asks you to help us with his personal healing. We are placing our trust in your hands at a time we as a family feel lost, afraid, and like the odds are so unfairly stacked against our brother's healing. The funds you gift us will be used to pay for his life sustaining medications and future treatments/expenses that arise from such a delicate circumstance. His personal needs are minimal as our family will be caring for him fully. We ask you to please help us with what we are unable to provide- the funds for extremely expensive but absolutely necessary medical treatment that gives him the gift of life.   This is an urgent call to action. We have just received word he will be discharged from the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit on Monday 10/05/2020. Upon discharge, he must have a portable iv infusion pump and the life sustaining Milrinone medications on constant drip to keep his heart functioning safely. Although our long term goal is to get him strong enough to get back to work and with his team, right now, we desperately need you to help us keep him safe by providing for this life sustaining need.
