Liz Yazzolino has been a huge part of the Canby community and now is our time to show the love ! Liz was PTA president for Eccles 7 years before being offered a position as head secretary at the school . All of her kids and husband Jerry attended Eccles and all are known and loved in the community .
Lizzy had been fighting a nagging cough, a lot of fatigue and shortness of breath for the past few weeks. After two negative COVID tests, She went to urgent care and they thought it was probably just asthma. They took some blood for testing and prescribed a couple inhalers and sent her on her way. On Wednesday morning she realized she missed a call in the middle of the night. It was a lab tech telling her that when she got the message she needed to immediately go to the ER
They headed to Meridian Park where they informed then that her red blood cell count was fatally low. It was at 5.7 when it should be around 13. Her iron count was also barely at a 2 when it should be 30-50, which basically means her body was not only losing blood somewhere, it also wasn’t making any new blood. They did 3 blood transfusions throughout that day to boost her count. She has also been getting iron.
They did a GI scope, both through her mouth and other areas, thinking they would find a slow bleeding ulcer. Unfortunately, they found cancer in her colon. They did a CT scan and thankfully didn’t see anything in other parts of her body .
She had surgery to remove what turned out to be a cancerous tumor the size of baseball from her colon. She is very sore, a little scared and comply shocked that she was so sick for so long and didn’t realize it.
Lizzy is scheduled to start chemo the first week of December .
This is a very trying for the family along with everything going on in this world they now have this. I would love to help them as a community and relieve some of the stresses of the impending medical bills . Jerry has been out of work for awhile now and with Covid, it’s not easy to find a job. With Liz being sick it will now be impossible as he needs to keep his family healthy .
I know this is not a good time for anyone . Anything helps, even prayers and sharing this post !!!!
Let’s do what we can to help the family out !!
