Fuujins Deployed 24 Hour Run
Donation protected
Greetings Fuujin Family and Friends!
As many of you know, the 4th Fighter Squadron “Fightin’ Fuujins” are currently deployed to the Middle East in support of combat operations in the theater. This is the first combat F-35A deployment, and we’ve enjoyed incredible mission success due to the hard work and dedication of our deployed team, as well as the support of our families and friends back home. In short, the Fuujins are ROCKing the deployment!
Along the way, many of the Fuujins have used their down time to improve their overall health and fitness. This is often a silver lining of long deployments, and our squadron is no different. We’re going to be in great shape when we get home!
We’ve also spent some recent time planning a few squadron events to celebrate our accomplishments after we return. We will hold a “Dining Out” in November (an age-old quasi-formal military event with it’s own special traditions) as well as our annual squadron Holiday Party in December. We can’t wait to get back home!!
Regardless of what’s happening here, we always miss home. But we feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to answer our nation’s call while receiving such great support from our families and friends. So we’ve decided to ask for your help one more time.
On October 1st, to celebrate the beginning of our last month deployed, the Fightin’ Fuujins will run for 24 hours straight. And just like everything else we’ve done up to this point, it will be a team effort. No single person can accomplish this feat, so we’ll accomplish it by having at least one Fuujin running at all times...but probably more! Moreover, we’re not going to stop our combat mission on this day. We’ll keep flying, fighting, and winning while we run!
In accomplishing this mission, we are asking for donations. A small portion will go toward prizes (more on that in a minute), and the rest will be split 50/50. 50% will be help offset the costs of our two celebratory events mentioned above, and 50% will support the Knights of Heroes charity.
Knights of Heroes was founded by friends of Maj “Trojan” Gilbert, an F-16 pilot who died when his jet impacted the ground during a strafe pass in Operation Iraqi Freedom while supporting ground troops taking enemy fire. His story is well-chronicled and worth a google. He saved several lives on that pass, but he left behind a wife and 5 kids. The Knights of Heroes charity was founded by one his best friends and fellow fighter pilot, “Weird” Harrold. KoH is unique in that it brings together boys and girls whose parents were killed or missing
in action to a camp in Colorado, where they interact with other kids with similar experiences, build independence and teamwork skills in the outdoors, and simply have a chance to “get away”. The impact of KoH on these kids is tremendous. And we can personally vouch for the honesty and integrity of the KoH leadership, since it’s run by a fellow fighter pilot. Your donation will not be wasted! Check out their website for more: http://knightsofheroes.org
Lastly, the prizes! Whichever Fuujin runs the most miles, and the person who donates and guesses closest to the total combined distance run by all Fuujins in 24 hours, will receive a prize!
So in your comments, don’t forget to guess! Your guess should be to the nearest tenth (i.e. 144.4 miles). Good luck!
Thanks for reading, and we hope you can find it in your heart to throw a few bucks our way as we seek to celebrate our accomplishments and give back to those that have gone before us. And thank you for the support you’ve given already. This has been a team effort, and our family and friends are as much a part of that as anyone....FUUJINS ROCK!
