Fighting Chance Project

My name is Stan Fleming I'm originally from Massachusetts and now live in Nashville TN. Three and a half years ago I gave up on everything, being stuck in active addiction I had tried everything to get sober with no success. I boarded a plane for southern California, planning to just live the best I could until the bitter end. On a layover here in Nashville I ran into a couple of men in the airport who would ultimately convince me to try treatment one more time in TN. I was medically detoxed but with no insurance or funding that's as far as I got. My case manager at the time mentioned a program called Stillwaters and that sometimes they take people on a scholarship basis. He suggested I write an essay asking for help which I did and was excepted to the program in March of 2020. I would spend almost 6 months in the program and to make a long story short never be the same again. Fast forward 3 and a half years later not only have I remained sober but I also work as a care manager with men in the same position I was in a few years ago.

Over the past few years, I have uncovered a love for endurance sports, running several marathons (including the 2021 Boston Marathon) and a half Ironman. My hope is that I can turn this love into a platform to raise money for scholarships that will go to underfunded people struggling with addiction and wanting to go to treatment because I feel that all who struggle deserve a fighting chance at recovery.
