Faith Perry's Leukemia Fight
Donation protected
On March 11, 15-month old Faith Perry was diagnosed with Premature B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-cell ALL).
A few days prior, she just didn't seem herself. She was whiny, had stopped eating, wasn't sleeping well, and just seemed generally unhappy. A visit to the pediatrician revealed a mass in Faith's lower abdomen, so she was sent immediately to Advocate Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL where she was admitted.
Tests revealed Faith has leukemia, and the leukemia cells have spread to her kidneys, liver, uterus, heart, spinal cord, and possibly her brain. Many of these organs were also enlarged and fluid was collecting around her heart and lungs. The masses, enlarged organs, and fluid collections were making it hard for Faith to breath, so she was placed on oxygen and moved to the Pediatric ICU.
In the last 5 days this beautiful baby has undergone a bone marrow biopsy, biopsies of most of her affected organs, chest tube placement, port-a-cath placement (for chemotherapy), spinal taps, and too many blood draws and imaging tests to count. She was started on chemotherapy the day her diagnosis was confirmed - both through her new port and into her cerebrospinal fluid (similar to how an epidural is placed). She will undergo this chemotherapy for the next 6 months. Because of a certain mutation in Faith's DNA, she is considered high risk for developing multiple complications from both the leukemia and her chemotherapy regimen. She may also require radiation at some point in the future.
Faith is a fighter though! She has continually fought her lines, oxygen, and has pulled out her NG tube (for food) multiple times. While everyone is happy to see her fighting spirit, she has not slept more than 20 minutes at a time despite sedatives and pain medications, requiring a specialist come see her to help manage her pain. This normally happy and mischievous baby girl has not smiled once since she was admitted to the hospital.
Faith has two older siblings, Bennett (4) and Iris (2), who adore and miss their sister and mom. Faith's mom, Rachel, has not been back to their home since she left to see the pediatrician last week. Her dad, Alec, has been back and forth between the hospital and home to try to keep things as normal as possible for Ben and Iris.
Please consider helping this young family. Funds raised will go to Faith's medical bills and the general cost of living while they get their baby girl the help and care she needs. Any additional money raised not used for these purposes will be paid forward to causes or organizations associated with Faith's diagnosis (to be determined).
