Fighting for Susan Cyr’s Recovery

My mother, Susan Cyr was a healthy 63-year-old… riding her bike, attending the gym… lost a bunch of weight… and enjoying life…

Unexpectedly, and out of nowhere she developed a funky virus with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea over a few days… She thought nothing of it… And thought, maybe it was a super imposed migraine, and tried to rest…

She was taking medication for her pre-diabetes, metformin… Which is also nephrotoxic medication… With superimposed, dehydration… a double insult to her kidneys- She went into acute renal failure…

Her body went Septic shock and her body went into multi system organ failure… Her liver also took an insult … and then her lungs started to fill with fluid… And she went into acute respiratory distress…

She was quickly intubated and put on continuous dialysis in effort to sustain her life. They maxed her out and all intravenous medications, ventilation, and life-support….

On paper we lost our mother twice…

By the grace of God, her body is still fighting…

All of the prayers, words of affirmation, and love from family and friends have been truly helpful during this time…

As when I was writing this, I realized that she delayed her care with calling her physician because she “didn’t want to ‘miss work…’“ And she didn’t want “another hospital bill“… it makes me so somber to think that our medical system failed her… as maybe we could’ve helped her earlier on…

There are many unknown factors and she owned her own home daycare business and is out of work while she recuperates… Our stepdad is on FMLA to be by her side…

Everybody keeps asking what they can do to help…

As we know they wouldn’t want to ask for assistance - but they could use our help in these unknown times. For anyone willing and able we are asking for donations on behalf of our Mom and Bruce ...
