Fighting Injustice on Hilton Head Island

Hello everyone,
Update: Monday May 22, 2023
A Video Thank You from Grandma Josephine
My name is Charise Graves, granddaughter to Mrs. Josephine Wright, and I am reaching out to you today because my 93-year-old grandmother, a resident of Hilton Head Island, SC for over 30 years, is in desperate need of your help. Bailey Point Investment, a greedy land development company, is trying to take her property away from her as her land is situated right in the middle of their new residential subdivision, currently under construction. This land has been in our family since the end of the Civil War and she has poured her heart and soul into maintaining the property for herself and her family to enjoy for generations to come.
Unfortunately, Bailey Point Investment is trying to force her off the land so they can develop it for their profit. The harassment this poor woman has endured and is still suffering at the hands of this unscrupulous company is unimaginable. She's being unfoundedly sued by Bailey Point for encroachment. They claim her back porch, (still standing), and shed, (which was removed for over $2,000), are encroaching on to their new property. In their lawsuit, they are also making claims that she is not the legal heir to her property which she has lived and paid taxes on for over 30 years.
My grandmother is heartbroken but resilient and not ready to give up without a fight. That's why I am turning to you, the community, for help.

We are hoping to raise enough funds to cover the cost of her attorneys, cover any property taxes, and construct a fence to create a barrier between Grandma's property and the new development which has recently paved a road 22ft from her back porch. An area that was once acres of untouched forest, swampland, and refuge to Hilton Head's diverse wildlife.
Any funds that the foundation has remaining will be used as a college fund for her heirs and to replant trees on Hilton Head. She has 7 children, 40 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Let's do our best to protect Josephine and ensure she receives the justice she deserves.
Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. We are grateful for your support and for standing with us during this difficult time. Thank you for taking the time to read about my grandmother's plight and for considering donating to her cause.
