Fighting Lyme for Elias
Donation protected
Halloween this year will be a Halloween we won't ever forget. It was a night the kids had fun collecting candy and they loved their costumes, but on November 1st we woke up learning that our 4- year old was bitten by a tick while trick-or-treating.
This tick had burrowed deep into Elias' neck, near his hairline, just over his spine. The head was stuck and Elias was taken to an urgent care for removal. Elias was so scared he fought removal and our little boy was put in a restraining jacket to get the head "dug" out.
About a week later symptoms of Lyme started trickling in, in the most unexpected ways. Elias went "from 0 to 60" over night it seemed and within a week and a half we learned that he had stage 2 Lyme. Elias ' entire body became covered in a "welt- like" rash and he began complaining of joint pain - specifically in his neck.
Elias has ran a 27- day course of the antibiotic doxycycline and still has had a positive Lyme test. He was positive for IgG, which is late stage / chronic Lyme. Alongside the antibiotic we have taken care of symptoms and cause with natural supplements, we are covering all the basis, but we now feel defeated.
The next steps are long and not cheap but can save his life, and make life for him as normal as can be. We need to see a "Lyme literate" doctor (LLMD) which is not covered by insurance and starts at $500 / hr. We have an appointment on December 13th with the recommended LLMD and on December 28th we go to Luries for an appointment with a pediatric infectious disease doctor. Elias gets additional bloodwork tomorrow to go more in depth to what we can find out about his Lymes and we will know more from that in about 3 weeks.
This disease can take everything from an adult, and I can already see it harming my little boy who is still having rashes and joint pain. This is going to be a long journey and I'm in Mama Bear mode, this is a fight I'm ready to battle, but the financial hurdles already are stacking up. Any help right now as we move forward to give Elias the best chance possible would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much for any consideration in help, prayers, warm wishes, whatever it takes.
