Fighting MND: Support for Brian Sylvester
Donation protected
My big brother, Brian Sylvester, has always been a fighter. A proud Devonport local, Brian is a former Tasmanian and Australian Boxing Champion, known just as much for his happy-go-lucky nature and endless supply of dad jokes as he is for his grit and determination. He’s the kind of person who never hesitates to lend a hand, who lights up a room with his cheeky grin, and who always looks out for the people he loves.
Now, at just 44 years old, Brian is facing the toughest fight of his life.
Brian has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) ALS. It is a cruel and progressive condition that affects the nerves controlling the muscles. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is just 2 to 5 years. But no two cases are the same. Everyone's experience with MND is different, and if anyone is going to defy the odds, it’s Brian. In his words, he’ll be the first person to beat it. And if sheer determination could make that happen, we all believe he would.
Brian is surrounded by a beautiful and loving family. His wife, Tameka, has been by his side through every moment. He is the proud dad of three children and a step-son, and will soon become a grandfather. He is also one of six siblings. Alongside me and our sister and brother, he carries the memory of our two brothers who have already passed. Our parents, who have already endured so much loss, are heartbroken to see another one of their children face something so devastating.
This fundraiser is for Brian and his family. Every dollar raised will go directly to supporting them with:
- Creating special memories with his children, grandchild, and family
- Easing daily living costs as work becomes harder
- Medical support, equipment, and comfort care
- Supporting Tameka and the kids through this journey and beyond
Whether you’re able to donate or simply share this page, we are so grateful. No contribution is too small. Your kindness means the world to us.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping my brother, my hero, continue this fight with the same strength, humour, and love he has always shown others.
With love,
Kendal (Brian’s little sister)
